Supercharging

Hi,
Just wondering, what's the deal with the B8 and supercharging?
Is the gearbox the issue?
I'm looking into a B8 and a supercharged B8 would really hit the spot!!
I suspect that the reason MRC aren't up to their nuts in charged B8s might be the box?
Is that true, or am I making it up?
Ps. I've not actually spoken to MRC .... yet!
Cheers
Mark

Honestly i reckon it's simply because a B8 RS4 purchase + supercharger buys you a C7 RS6.
MRC did a C7 4.0T V8 transplant into a B8 with the standard box not so long ago so worth seeing if that goes bang anytime soon

I did go and look at a C7 RS6 the other day, evil (fantastic) looking car, but I'm not feeling the size, think I prefer the more compact RS4, though I've not seen them side by side, the 6 just seems quite a bit bigger.
I saw the RS6 TT V8 transplant, now that's my perfect car I think and once I've found my 4, I think I might be looking for a suitable engine ... after speaking to MRC to find out the details.
I did wonder if the tranny from the 6 would also fit? Another question for MRC, I'm sure if it would then they would have mated it in with the engine swap?
I don't want to finish up with a car that eats trannys that would push me to the 6 .... but I do fancy the idea of a modded RS4!!
Need to find a car first.....

A SC B8 would be the perfect combo for me. There was a B8 that had a Supercharger (QST) and a Akra fitted that was for sale Q4 last year. If you search my posts you'll fnd more info on it. The SC and Akra ended being removed as the car could not find a buyer - I did not buy it as it had already gone through 1 flywheel (low mileage car) and Audi would not entertain warranty on the drivetrain - too much of a risk for me.

A good insight into the ups and downs of supercharging might be found here:

Marzz is in Australia and he had an RS5 that underwent a few mods incl supercharging ... worth a read
There were other threads around the same time that touched on the challenges of supercharging a B8

Cheers for the link, had a good read, gutted for the OP so much effort (and cash) into the build.....
I cant understand how the B7 handled the extra power so well and the B8 *may* have a number of issues.
I'm planning on getting round some of the shows this year and talking to people, see where that goes..... and I'll also pop down to MRC (when I actually buy a car) have a health check (dyno run) to make sure it's Ok, and talk to them about the options. If the V8 TT transplant is still going strong I'd be SERIOUSLY tempted to follow that route, but maybe limit the output to say 575/600hp (assuming the build could go further) with the compromise that the drivetrain will hopefully last longer. I know you always want more but 600hp would surely be sufficient? The biggest gain would hopefully be in the low/mid range torque, thats where the old B7 and I think B8 is missing a bit of poke.......

The 6 feels a lot bigger. It is cumbersome if you don't need it and in my opinion the straight line umph is not worth that sacrifice and that of the handling and loss of s-tronic.
Personally for me part of the character of the B8 RS4 is the rev happy linear power delivery.

yep, you hit the nail on the head there, that is the conclusion I came to ... too.
I love the engine, but I also want to know that I can spank the odd 335d that I'm (very) likely to encounter along the way... dont want them to go home saying 'killed an RS4' !!
I'm happy to throw say £10 to £15k at an RS4 (as its a keeper) if I can get reliable killer performance, and I'd *personally* rather do that than by an RS6

Fair play to you. A charged B8 would be amazing. It would lose some of it's uniqueness which does add to the enjoyment but you would win back in other areas.
Once in the right gear and revving it is properly quick and what i like is that it is really usable and accesible on normal roads and without getting to jail time speeds within a few seconds.
One thing i would say is if you did add more low down torque you would have to figure how to map the box or you will find you will never use it as it is perfectly matched to the revoholic engine

I'm personally not a tuning fan, I buy my cars new and like the package supplied by the manufacturer. I am keen to buy the B9 RS4 but I also want a C7 RS6 and nearly did until I purchased two VW T6 Caravelles for a new business venture.
I am not sure what my current RS4 will be replaced with as the B9 RS4 is still an unknown and I am not going to be a fan if it gets the lazy ZF box that's in the RS6.
