Thinking of a new exhaust guys, for example a miltek. My question is does the car need a remap when a different exhaust is fitted or can it go straight on with no changes to the ECU. thanks in advance

My understanding is if you don't change the cats then no ecu tweek is needed just bolt on an go

Thanks mate, I take it when you buy a system and it says cat-back, you keep the original cats on the car then replace the rest of the exhaust?

Yes you won't change the cats on a B8 unless you get new manifolds and take the engine out.

Most will either connect to the downpipes or after the front silencers.

You won't need an ecu tweak but it may help. Big revvy, powerful NA V8's are very sensitive to exhaust design.

Depending on what you are after you may get away with chopping out the front or middle silencers for a few hundred quid

Removing the centre resonator would probably be your best bet then, if you just want to make it louder for little cost.

The capristo is an excellent choice, but not the most economical on the wallet.

We have done a couple of X pipe exhausts on these. This Mod retains the full switching of the valves with an increase in volume without being overly loud.

The thing with the RS4 is that a lot of sound is muted due to cabin insulation, and perception of sound and volume is different in the car as it is to outside of the car.

We have a brief video clip on our Facebook page if you would like to get an idea of X pipe sound. www.facebook.com/apautomotivetelford

Ant,

When you say x pipe does that just mean putting an X section in the middle of the original exhaust thus removing the silencer parts in the centre section????? Does this involve cutting the exhaust and welding in the X section????

Thanks Barry

You can see a custom x in place of the middle silencer below:

The off the shelf jobbies like supersprint normally clamp on where the original join is behind the front silencers and a new clamp before the rear mufflers.

Thanks for that, can you buy the one in the photos off the shelf aswell or has this been specially made. I see the pics of the one ant mentioned just removes the centre muffler. Your pic the front mufflers are removed also

You sure can. Supersprint do one in resonated or unresonated:

Just found this... is this your car Deano? Looks like you have straight pipes not X Pipe?

Or is the X towards the rear (can't tell from photo)...
