Calling anyone with high beam assist without lane assist
I'm going to retrofit high beam assist to my car but i want to be certain what mirror and canbus I'm ordering. The easiest way of doing that would be getting hold of the vin of a car with that setup. Would anyone be kind enough to help?

Honestly I wouldn't bother. On my RS4 it dimmed about 0.5s too late each time and I was constantly flashed.
Even the matrix ones in my Q7 get me flashed once a journey.....

+1. Had it on my S4 and it just didn't work well. Much prefer dipping lights myself. Also with it on and lights in Auto, you have to press the stalk TWICE for main beam. Very annoying

Oh really. That is good to know guys. This is the first car i go out driving just for the sake of it and sometimes on country road bends where I'm using the paddles dipping the lights is a PITA.

I sometimes wish for the old foot switch for dip, it's not like the left foot has much to do! Even when I used to have a manual with a foot switch (various Mk1 Escorts) it was a no thought action and kept your hands free.DeanoC wrote:Oh really. That is good to know guys. I have a spare series Land Rover Floor dip switch if you want it

The High Beam Assist certainly has its quirks, but for driving around rural/country roads at night I have found it convenient to use. Urban areas perhaps less so. For those who have it and don't like it, just switch the headlights off Auto and onto the On position and then the headlight stalk will work in the traditional manor.
Deano, when you say Lane Assist do you mean:
Lane Keep Assist
or
Lane Change/Side Assist
I have the former but not the later, so maybe able to help with codes etc? I'm looking to try retrofit the Side Assist feature, as I feel that has more value than the Lane Keep Assist.

Hi Sam, thanks you but i need a vehicle without the lane keep assist. I do a lot of country miles and find the headlight assist to be a great asset. The bulk of the country miles are done at night, and on B roads down the coast. This all helps add up to 83,000 kms in 26 mths
Once out of the city/suburban area I generally turn on high beam auto and let it do its thing.
Granted it is frustrating on a left hand corner where my high beam are directed at the oncoming traffic and their lights are directed away from me which maximises the time they endure high beam whilst the Audi system waits till the oncoming light intensity builds enough to register and turns off high beam. I do tend to get one or two flashes per 300km trip with that situation but also generally as they flash so do my lights dip.
Another frustrating thing is the return to manual from auto is a series of inopportune switch flicks as it does its own thing and you toggle between what was, or wasn't, a second ago. So have found best to either use auto and stick with it or not at all.
Her indoors has a new little merc and it doesn't seem any better/worse than the RS4. Although her headlights on high beam are way better than the RS4's.
I don't have lane assist so if still interested I'll fetch my VIN out when home. Mine's about a May 2014 build (from memory) with delivery in OZ late July 2014
