Oil recommendations for RS4 B8

Just wondering what oil recommendation you guys might suggest for my RS4 B8?

Which is interesting (if Audi recommend this), as the 5w40 would be a better choice, covering a wider heat range and providing better protection at higher temperatures - something the v8 is known for producing. Odd.

When I was researching the oil back for my first service at the start of the year, I found that a variable serviceschedule says it needs 5w30 and a fixed schedule needs 5w40. On further investigation I was told be every dealer I rang that they only use 5w30, regardless of the service schedule, because that's what has been advised by Audi AG.

Oh, OP, the advised oil from Audi is Castrol Edge Titanium.

I've just been in to Leicester Audi for a quote for a service and they advised that if I'm supplying my own oil they advised they recommend to be 5W 30. I mentioned that the fixed service in the book says that it needs to be 5W 40 oil and I got the response again that they recommend 5W 30.

Not so convinced myself. When I had my A4's first service and oil change completed, 5W 30 was used and the oil consumption went up compared to the burn rate before the service.

However, I got the feeling from the tone that if I was to step away from the recommendation then if there were any issues with the engine this could be a card that could be played against any warranty claim...

Go on Opie oils, Castrol, Mobil etc and they all have a facility to put your reg or car in and come back with the manufacturers recommended oil. I used 5w 30 on my RS5 and supplied my own oil to Audi with no issues or questions regrading viscosity etc.

Few months ago asked what oil needed for car said 5w/30 so got mysheelf 4 ltrs. So then get car Serviced its only asked after paying bill what oil did you use said 5w/40 so I said about already got 4 ltrs of 5w/30 so gave me a ltr free so I keep the 5w/30 incase they change oil spec next serice a bit of a pain its was a good job I asked or I be topping up with 5w/30 not sure what would happen if you mixed two different grade of oil together?

Owner's manual stipulates 5w40 only for the Chinese market.

Weird, my local dealer pulled the info from Audi and it now states 0w30 as the oil of choice?

Looks like use whats ever cheapest to buy in bulk. I think should have two grades of oil customer can decide which one they what. or supplie your yourshelf. I can see if it use less oil or more on 5w/40 now?

Had call from audi about service done last week I asked again about oil said 5/w30 is for long life service and more for diesel cars because of ash build up and 5w40 is for fixed service and is right for car

I guess the key here is to find out whats in it already and at least run that till the next full oil change.
