Michelin Pilot Super Sports

Post by innercry666 » Wed Apr 20, 2016 1:00 pm

Having found a fairly size-able bolt in the front right tyre this morning, I am now in need of replacements. I'm trying to source Michelin Pilot Super Sports but I'm not having much luck for a next day delivery. Tyre Leader apparently have them in stock for £260.69 with a minimum 72 hour lead time. Can anyone recommend a supplier that may be able to better that either on time or price?

Thanks in advance.

I actually remember seeing some on Amazon prime! Might be worth a shot.

What size? I bought mine (255/35R20 for S8) from Oponeo and had a mobile fitter put them on. About £170 each IIRC.
Delivery isn't instant, but they usually come over from Europe (Netherlands or Germany) inside 24 or 48 hours.
Or try Pneus Direct which is another supplier I use, also with stock "sur le continent".

Unless it's an RS5 where the correct size will be 275/30/20. Some people have also fitted 275/30/20 onto their RS4's, as they're effectively the same wheels.

To answer the OP. You could try Camskil or type your postcode into the below link:

http://dealers.michelin.co.uk/

Earlier, I used the above to get a local dealer within £15 of the cheapest online company for a set of 4 Michelin PSS tyres I need. I also then qualify for the £75 free fuel card offer they're running (it's less for 2 tyres).

I bought 4 PSS's recently via Tyre Leader for my RS4. They gave a good price but turned up about 2 weeks later. One tyre on one order and the other 3 about 2 days later...

Best of luck with this one. When i had a puncture on one of mine, it took nearly 2 weeks to get a replacement, got it in the end through camskill from getmany.

Tried audi dealers, oponeo, tyreleader, local garages up and down the country. When i brought the original 4, malvern tyres in brum were the cheapest

Most people will try to sell you the PS2 as the SS isnt rated for the audi i found

Worth the wait though, they are brilliant

I've placed orders for PSS's with both mytyres and tyreleader in the last 6 weeks (265/30/20's) - both said in stock, then phoned me every day saying "out of stock, do you want to wait till tomorrow and we'll phone you again" - repeat that for a week with each, and I gave up and cancelled the orders. PSS's are thin on the ground for some reason in this size right now, and price is a premium because of it - £250+ a corner :(

You not tempted to go 275/30/20 now Ross, considering you've binned the spacers idea?

Very good question Sam - I hadn't even considered it to be honest - do you know of any downsides? I suppose there's a slight improvement in rim protection but perhaps at the price of sidewall flex? Any threads on this you know about?

From what I've looked into, you'd get a 3mm ride height increase and 3mm gap loss between the arch and tyre. You also would be increasing the rolling radius which will affect the speedo to under read by 0.89%, so at 60mph it will then read 59.47mph. There may be a way to correct that using VCDS as the RS5 runs the 275 section tyre on the same rims.

I feel that Michelins have the firmest sidewalls out of all the brands, so the trade off by increasing the sidewall height would be negligible.

A did a search on here a couple of weeks back and Revolution run a 275 on their RS4 and found no negative issues. I shall certainly be giving it ago once I've bought a car.

When you replace the tyres (if you have the space) I'd keep one of them to use as an "emergency spare" that you can have fitted for a few days until the new of new tyres arrives.
