stupid question but do you have to remove the pads to remove the calipers prior to taking off the disks the resion is the fronts have a lip on them and Audi put new pads on during my mot & service
i know the front pads a easy to remove so i probably will take them out prior to removing the caliper then disk off and grind off the lip

i would be looking to do the same to the rears but as they have a electronic brake is this as straight forward as remove the pads then the caliper or do i need to use the Vag Com to release the brake prior to removing them??

Hi

You will need VCDS (or similar tool such as snap on Solus) to put the rear calipers into what is basically a service position
where it backs the handbrake right off before you commence work.

From there it is as a normal brake replacement job, once all new bits are fitted you will need to re-activate the electronic
handbrake using the same tool.

Generally very easy to do.

Yes you will, nothing out of the ordinary though. Just your average rewind tool will be sufficient.

cheers Glenn all i have found on the net says the same but have seen a few vids of chancers removing the motor from the rear caliper to push in the piston
i have the Vag Com and it seems to be straight forward but the do seem to want to hook up to a battery charger to do the rears
they say the EHB is sensitive to voltage fluctuations ???
would i definitely need a charger attached???

Realistically yes, but if you don't have a voltage stabiliser/charger then you can still do it. Switch off ALL ancillaries to reduce the load on the battery.

We have done this in pit lanes around Europe without battery chargers so we can change pads at track days.
