Don't both of these need 3G/4G mobile coverage? What do you do when you are in an area with no mobile coverage.

The streaming services all need 3G/4G coverage, Spotify off-line requires a paid account (although you can get 1 month free as a trial, 3 months over the Xmas/NY period).

HDD will plug in but they are limited size.

All iPod's will connect via cable and seeing as I already had a 160Gb classic this was ideal for me.

I have BT audio streaming, SD card, Jukebox and iPod, I use the iPod mostly because of the shear size and control, and I can take my whole CD collection with me, the only time the iPod comes out of the glove box is to sync with itunes.

Yes they do, but I can't think of a time when I've not had coverage. The speed of 3G/4G means the entire song/podcast/track has downloaded in seconds meaning there's no cutting out in any poor reception spots.

Lucky you, where I live in south Hampshire there are large areas that don't have reliable 3G or 4G coverage which makes any streaming solution almost useless in this area.

Best 4G coverage
The fourth generation of mobile broadband, 4G, is still rolling out across the UK. The four networks are rolling out 4G at different paces, with EE covering 81% of the population, Vodafone covering 65%, O2 covering 66% and Three covering 53%.

Best 3G coverage
All the providers offer greater coverage for 3G than 4G, with all four covering over 90% of UK homes with their 3G signal. So whether you choose O2, EE, Vodafone or Three, the signal coverage should be similar, but you still need to check what it's like in your local area.

£9.99 a month for 10's of millions of potentially listenable tracks with Spotify is peanuts to pay compared to the cost of buying a new album outright. Just need a decent capacity iPhone to store offline music on and Bluetooth connection.

I've got this setup with a 128gb iPhone and works brilliantly.

What's the bit rate from Spotify? I rip all my CD's at 320 kbps so there is no noticeable clipping which gives better sound. I hate 128kbps or less as it doesn't sound good.

I'm going to have another look into Spotify, their bit rate used to be poor, if they are all 320kbps that makes it more palatable.

Could always look at TIDAL if quality is key. TIDAL uses FLAC, it's more expensive than Spotify and currently has less content, but might be worth a look.
