Great spec but still too much?

Post by abe froman » Fri Oct 16, 2015 9:20 am

Seller looks suspect (website down, mobile only, etc)

But hypothetically is this still too much? Cat D (accident)

I'm in the market for one, ideally Suzuka Grey, oh, and straight.

Why is it Cat D? Did I miss the part of the advert? That'll play a part.

It's done a lot of miles - 17k a year - given it's had time off for whatever insurance work it's not had an easy life.

Ceramics are nice obviously - as are buckets if that's your thing. It's cheap so expect resale to take a big hit too.

The paint match is rubbish, and there's some seriously iffy panel fits on the rear quarter (Look at the fit of the chrome strip on the top of the rear door).

I had spotted poor match on another photo but didn't bother to check the rest - that is totally unacceptable IMO. Needs redoing completely, so there's £2k off the price as a minimum.

CAT D on a £60k+ car can (and normally does) mean a big accident/damage of some sort. Remember, CAT D is used to describe a car where the repair cost was considered 'excessive' by the Insurance Company. The Insurance Company that handled the claim decided that repairing the vehicle will cost more than replacing it.

As per the picture above, there's lots to suggest why that car is cheap. If it were me, I'd be running very fast into the opposite direction. Resale will be a bugger, especially when the B9 is launched and only the cherished/good examples of B8's stay appealing. Look at the B7 market now and you'll see CAT D cars hanging around, whereas good more expensive non-CAT cars get snapped up quickly.

It may just be the low-res picture, but that also looks like appalling silver paint bleed from the diffuser into the groove?!? That car might have had 'paint' on pretty much every panel.

That is truly shocking. As mentioned I'm in the market and everyone likes a bargain and if it was a stolen interior I'd be tempted but this has obviously had major work and a non-audi repair.

Off to a dealer at the weekend to try one.

Your problem there is a stolen interior on a B8 won't equate to an amount being more than the car's value. That only occurs on older cars such as the B7. So a CAT D B8 will most certainly be a big accident/shunt. :)

Thanks, yes I certainly have/had no intention of buying that car. Just thought the pricing was interesting. Quite close to some 'straight' cars yet with obvious damage.

Spec was nice though.

Agreed, I wonder what it exchanged for through the insurance/trade network, £20-25k would be my guess?
