Has anyone had both? Or changed from one to the other? Have 40 k to spend and initially looking for a sepang RS4 but have seen a C63 facelift which has got me thinking... I don't need the space of the RS4 just want a car that I will enjoy jumping into every time...

Will you want to use it as a daily driver (in all seasons) or just for a weekend toy?

If a daily driver (especially in the winter) I think you'll be hard pushed to better the RS4.

I've owned both from new, what do you want to know?

The Merc was a hoot but in heavy rain and snow it will take you like at some point lol. Maybe not quite that bad but you get my point. I had it for 9 mths (company lease car0 AND i went through 6 tyres, I replaced the fronts once and the rears twice.

My RS4 is great all year round and nearly keeps up with the Merc in the summer. The same goes for the BMW e90 M3, slightly better then the Merc in winter and faster than the other two in the summer across country. In wet and icy weather the RS4 is miles ahead.

I prefer the Audi interior build quality although the B8.5 is a little dated is def better quality then the other two (Merc was a 2010, M3 was a 2009)

I enjoyed all 3 and still enjoy the RS4, I will change the RS4 in 18 mths for either a B9 RS4 or an RS6 seeing as I am 6'4"

Hope this helps but if you have specific questions please let me know.

I'm discussing importing this with my importer friend for a summer cruiser, something totally different.

I can't imagine an american knowing what a British winter was like :) it's seriously cool! If you get it, you know you're going to have to take us all out in like like we're 5 years old?

Sorry, I seemed to have high-jacked this thread, is there anything you want to know about the C63 Davidrs246?

IMO you've answered your own question. There's plenty of better places to spend £40k if you don't need the practicality of an Estate. :)

I haven't owned the C63 but did have a blast in one atMB world and was really surprised at the grip even in the wet circle but I shy ed away as I new ion my hart that I would have a total lack of talent one day going around a corner in the damp and end up in a ditch so for me all year round fun the RS4 or most of the RS's are hard to beat

Either will have a compromise element. I guess if unlike RWD then it's the Merc or more traction in adverse conditions it's the RS4 but there are so many personal likes/dislikes in the mix it's obviously down to your requirements.

Exactly this. They're very different animals
I had a loan of a c63 for a week when I was considering a 507 estate over my current audi, but to be frank, it just wasn't me
It's a better screwed together car than an Audi, and feels a lot more civilised and grown up inside, but it's completeoy at odds to its driving style, which is hooligan biased
You can do big smokey drifts in it, but if you want to make fast progress without being on your tiptoes, it's frustratingly lacking in grip and the gearbox is <beep> in comparison to the twin clutch DSG Box - I believe the new c63 has a better box though, but still relative lack of traction
On most uk roads where the surface isn't perfect or the conditions are anything other than bone dry, you wouldn't keep up with a B8 RS4, but you'd possibly be having more fun
The real deal breaker for me was when I was travelling along a typical uk B road, and there was a gap to pass three slow moving cars ; I hit the gas and it took an age to work out which gear it wanted, and then, about mid overtake, the offside wheel hit a damp patch, and the traction control completely cut the ignition for what felt like an age before giving me full power again. Luckily, there wasn't anything coming the other way, or that delay could've created a head on
The merc sounds a lot better, but I found the car too insulated for sound, so you needed the window down to enjoy it. In a tunnel the merc noise wins hands down
Have a drive of both and see what you think, but consider, as others on here will I'm sure agree with, the B8's talents need time to really appreciate
