Dealers stopped taking orders earlier this year and I though production had stopped around April

Ooooooo big surprise!!! 
The configerator went down months ago.
B7 stopped production in 2007, B8 came out 2011 ish
I think there was an even bigger gap between B5 and B7.
Suspect it's a scare campaign to try and shift the pages of unsold dealer cars that have been registered as demos lately.

I had to buy mine off stock; not build - audi dealers had lost the opportunity to spec order a new car over 3 months ago.......

Yup - the order books closed 3 months ago. It's why dealers have been stockpiling as much they can.
As we wait for the B9 in 2016/2017, prices of used stock will get stronger as the new stock dries up.
Supply and demand.

Terrible reporting by all of them. Surely a call to a dealer would make it a fact rather than "reportedly".
