RS4 B8 V-Spoke & upgrades

I've had my RS4 B8 for 2years now, and it has been utterly reliable and pretty much faultless, wish I could say the same for the Audi dealer service network, but that would be a very different thread.

Unfortunately the 20" V-spokes have never been my favourite feature on the car (lots of extras and packs including sports) and they seem to have an attraction for kerbs.

Fortunately I discovered Kim Collins at QSTuning in Haywards Heath, just a few minutes away from where I work. I've now had them do various things for me, from brake pads to oil change, and they have been first class. I've also chatted to Kim about the RS4 engine and his recommendation was to change the air filters, change the exhaust and pretty much leave it at that.

Mine now has high-flow air filters and a Miltek full system with valves and I have to say it has made a significant difference; the car feels much more responsive and of course it now sounds the way I would expect a V8 to!

The wheels have been refinished by Wheel Works in Gatwick and they have done an amazing job on these - see below a couple of photos - they have been finished in the Audi anthracite as per original, but with a matt satin finish and removing the diamond cut finish (which I never liked).

You take your choice of course!

I like what you have done and was thinking of doing something similar. It's an improvement over standard IMO.

Excellent! Much less fussy without the diamond cut.

Hi

They were £320+VAT for all four wheels. This includes a full strip down to bare, repair, repaint, refit tyres, balancing etc. check out wheel works website which provides a good description of their process http://www.wheelworksuk.co.uk/index.php, there are of course others around (Lepsons for instance), but be aware there are a lot of not so good ones around too.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Mark

Did you remap the engine after changing the exhaust and filter mate, away to do the same mods with my car?

They look good. I'm not a fan either and plan to swap mine out in the spring

So two areas that annoy me...

the brakes are too snatchy.

And the steering is a little too vague in dynamic and disappears at times in comfort.

Anyone felt the same and any ideas? Feels like the master cylinder for the brakes (my c6 was the same, so guess it's an Audi preference). And I can't believe the steering isn't tuneable somehow!

I was also thinking of some new springs for the drc, I was tempted with the revolutions ones mentioned earlier. They did mention ages ago that blisten were considering a full DRC replacement! But that's probably a bit OTT for now...

I have now finally stopped mucking about and now use the manual flappies when pushing on. So much easier to balance the car properly now!

I might get a set of air filters from Mrc, no warranty issues with these in are there?

I think the MRC is just a rebrandec ITG. I'm not a fan of foam. The pipercross in my cupra let noticeable amounts of <beep> through.

The standard paper filters are about as good as you will get in my opinion

Has nobody bothered with K&N's?

I'm with you Shinobi, the steering is pants. Not sure if its the 20in wheels and tyres, but in comfort it is inconsistently light, but seems to tramline quite easily and be pulled about. There are times when it feels like you are fighting the car to stay straight unless you're on a super smooth surface. And in dynamic, it just gets stupidly firm at low speeds. There is no happy medium.

i've always liked the V-spokes, though I ended up buying an RS4 with may least favourite wheel - bright silver rotors. On the plus side, they do suit the ally trim on the rest of the car and are super-easy to clean. And wheels are the easiest item to swap when you fancy a change.
