Do we not have a service record book that can be stamped after service anymore? Dealer now says it's all held on their computer instead. I like to have a record showing dealer stamp so new buyers can clearly see car has been serviced.

Mine came with a "Audi Service Schedule" booklet which details the what's and when of Audi servicing. In the back of the booklet it has a flap to store a piece of paper. Mine currently has a print out called "complete record" showing the vehicle details (VIN model etc) then details of its Delivery Inspection (date, miles, dealer details etc). I was told that when the car has its first service the record is updated and I will be supplied with a new print out that shows the first service details in chronological order underneath the vehicle and delivery inspection details.

How true that is I don't know, but the dealer sounded genuine.

Audi will still stamp an 'old style' service book, but cars manufactured from about 2013 have a digital service record. There is a record of service, but it is in digital form as a service certificate on an A4 sheet of paper, which is intended to be kept in the digital service book. Intended to reduce the possibility if forged stamps I understand, although any Audi service history can be checked anyway by phone to Audi UK or at any dealer as long as you show just reason for requesting it!

Is it another devious attempt to push us all towards selling our cars back to the dealer, by making private sales ever more difficult? Maybe that's one conspiracy theory too far.

Huh?!? Why does it make a private sale more difficult. It's not like you don't get a record, you still get proof that your car is serviced in the form of a digital printout, so it doesn't stop you selling privately.

I've traditionally always had a service record book and made sure it's always stamped and tried to keep an impeccable history with all the paperwork for everything the car has had done. I've always used it as a selling point and normally first lookers of my cars buy straight away because of the back up in paperwork as well as the overall condition of the cars. It's strange not to now collect tax discs, stamped service history and MOTs which will soon be paperless. That was the only reason I made this comment.

Perhaps it's just me but when buying used cars in the past I've always called one or two dealers to double check the service stamps are valid. Sure, seeing physical stamps gives more confidence, but do people buy these sort of cars on seeing stamps alone?

I would always phone a dealer too. If nothing else but to get them to check their records incase something else was recommended as needing doing that the previous owner might have scrimped on

Both my Audis dnt have service books. I made a habit of keeping the service receipts to show to private sellers if and when the time comes.

This!! Years ago I had my wife's golf GTI serviced by a VW mechanic after hours, he stamped my book! But it wasn't on the computer records, when I came to sell the car the buyer checked with VW
Obviously not recorded on the records, was a little embarrassing. He bought the car,but in hindsight I could have just got him to stamp the book without the work being done.

Register and add your chassis number you will get your service record online and all the details including any other work the car has had done, not just service details.

When I did mine I got my full service record, which is just PDI lol and those details full correspond to the PDI sheet I have. I also added my 2003 B6 S4 and it recognised that too.

If you move away from the main dealer you will need to get a service book and start getting it stamped sadly as independents won’t have access to the electronic service record.

I'm sure the new style records are for two reasons:

1) Help reduce the company carbon footprint.
2) Encourage owners to stick with Audi when servicing their vehicles, for convenience / simplicity. I mean, what's the Indy going to stamp if there isn't an area to stamp?!

Audi UK do not always have accurate records of service history either. It depends on how the dealer logged the service. If there was other work completed at the time i.e. Repair work to components / bodywork, MOT, etc, etc if is likely listed under that bracket. Meaning if you call Audi UK they will not have the service listed as such. You'd still be able to get the specifics from the dealer themselves, but Audi UK records shouldn't be solely relied upon. The new method 'may' help keep this in check.
