Rear Bumper Protection

Post by Soot1e » Thu May 07, 2015 10:29 am

On my previous A4 Avants I used a "Rearguard" to prevent my 2 manic Cocker Spaniels from scratching the rear bumper as they leapt in and out of the cage in the back. Now I have the RS4 I was contemplating getting another one for it but the web site says not for S4 and presumably RS4. Before I either track down a local stockist or travel to Leighton Buzzard (company address) to see if the A4 one fits, has anyone gone down this route for bumper protection?

I would imagine the sizes are the same.

Hatchbag bootliners seem to get a good review

I already have a boot liner/hatch bag but looking for even more protection against scratches.

We have had dogs for years and the cheap easy answer is just lay an old duvet over the rear bumper every time , thick enough to stop any scratching .

It's rather a secondary solution rather than a primary solution and yet still a damn good idea - get the clear plastic protection film applied to the rear bumper.

They offered it as a nil cost throw in when I had the whole front done before delivery.

I've always had two blankets in the boot of my cars for both gear whilst in the boot and to put over the bumper when putting things in and out, even the dog.

I was amazed with my R36 that even though I was anal with the use of the blankets the bumper still had two fine scratches on it when the car got passed on. Either I missed something one day or someone else has just quickly popped something in the boot (it happens when people are "helping") and one of those events that others wouldn't notice or mind about happens ...

So, irrespective of whether you use a mat, a rug, a Doona etc etc (and they're all good) it's a good idea to have the extra back up of the film.

For the RS4 they seem to offer a boot liner with a fold down for bumper protection as an option but it's a couple of hundred quid, anyone known if it's any good?

Not really, it's a bit like an offcut from allied carpets

My wife drives a 2004 S4 Avant. She has installed an Audi accessory cargo mat P/N ZAW380400 - US$106. It works fine with the following caveat: it does not have a flap that covers the bumper outside the rear lift gate. Following Astonished, we carry an old bathmat to protect that area from scratches when loading bulky items.

I have the boot buddy. It does the job very well but it is overpriced for what is essentially a plastic liner. The optional extensionn is very good for when the RS is in van mode, it really protects the seats well. I use their non slip liner as the bumper protection and it works very well.

FYI gents I bought one of these and it's very good, also stumped up for the rubber base to stop sliding around - http://www.hatchbag.co.uk/audi-a4-avant ... 08-onwards
