Audi Connect - Google maps

Post by geoffdunk » Fri Mar 20, 2015 1:39 pm

Hi all

Has anyone had any reliable luck with the Audi Connect Google maps feature. I have had it for the past 4 years in our BMW X5 and it works superbly, we use it for every non-local trip, go to Google maps, find the location, drop a pin, right click and send to car. Jump in the car go to Nav and accept the destination, it takes you to the exact point the pin was located at on Google maps, great great system, really easy to use and works every time.

The Audi system should be just as easy, I have a MyAudi account, 4G sIm card in the car and Google live is my Satnav map of choice etc., this all works really well. I have linked the Audi account with my Google account but when I right click the pin as above and send to car, pick the Audi and nothing ever gets there. If I go into the MyAudi web page and do it there it sometimes gets to the car, when I add the address details to MyAudi site it always goes to the car but I might as well sit in the car and type the same info in.

Anyone suffering with the same issue. I have read a few items and mostly people say it’s a was t of time but I we have used it for the past 4 years on the X5 and one you use it you use it for every destination and it’s easier in Google to find you exact destination than anywhere else, my wife relies on it, it’s a must have for here but the Audi just isn’t cutting it.

If anyone can shed any light on the problem I'd appreciate it.

Cheers all

Hi
Agree, system on the X5 (came from one too) was much superior
I have got it to do what I want however
Downloaded app- MMI connect- from App Store which is how I use it (I assume similar on Android but don't know)
Once you've registered your MyAudi account on it then you can send Goggle Map searches to it- this can be by pin drop or entering a search eg business name etc
It then appears in the Sat Nav page under online services ( I think- will have to check when next in car)
I do have a 3G data card in mine- I dont know if the system uses 4G and if that would be an isssue

Hope that helps, Bob

Thanks Bob, yes, I found that but I don't sit on my phone all day, I work in IT and we work will full size computers and it worked great with the X5. My wife is the same, she is not a big fan of mobile phone use.

I have used the iPhone app and it does work.

As for the 4G/3G subject, its a 4G SIM card but the systme is only using 3G and everything else worls jsut fine, the Google maps in the SatNav are excellent, I even get street view of my current location too along with fully up to date roads.

CHeers for your help

Mine works fine from desktop Google Maps.
It was a while ago and I don't remember all the details but, after a minor faff, Google now has a "Send to car" option on the right-click context menu.

There was a helpful PDF instruction file that I found somewhere, possibly on the Audi USA site.

Google has had the "send to Car" context menu option for over 4 years, its what we always use for the X5, they made a change about 18 mths ago whereby you could only use "send to car" if you had a google acount but that was no big deal. I now get after clicking "send to car" options for both the X5 and the RS4, X5 works, RS4 doesn't recive the location.

I have the PDF explaining all the details. I also contacted Google and they say there has been some issues with this for some car manufacturers, they have stated it might be worth starting from scrtach again as I set up my MyAudi account while waiting for the delivery of the car so am going to try that tomorrow.

Hoorah, this is now sorted, re-created my MyAudi account and all now works well. Click google maps, send to car and it apears in the SatNav online destinations.

Audi's outdated, low res, crummy UI nav and informatics are a daily source of disappointment to me. The tiny screen is on par with the screen in my E46 M3 (2003!) and completely outclassed by my wifes 5 years old X5. I paid for the Audi connect service, but I don't know why. The VGA screen and the crippled functionality (compared to every other manufacturer) make it a bit of a waste of time.

To make matters worse, Audi in Australia does not support connectivity to the car through MyAudi (whether via a PC or the iOS app). That is, Google supports it, and the car has the capability, but Audi has chosen not to enable the few lines of code necessary to light it up in Aus. I was incredulous upon discovering htis after I took delivery of the car - so I took it to senior management in Audi Aus and the answer was "No, it is not enabled in Aus and it will not be enabled here". This is despite the fact that a loaded RS4 MSRPs at $200k here.

For the past three years in Aus, BMW has had all of that functionality, not to mention Spotify, Pandora, Facebook, Office etc.

Joke.

Can only imagine/hope that Audi has thrown in the towel on all this and will be an aggressive and early adopter of CarPlay. Of course, there'll be no retrofit available for us mugs with 2015 cars driving around with 2005 tech!
