B8 rs4 sports exhaust mod

Post by Gastro » Sun Jan 04, 2015 8:28 pm

Not sure if this has been covered, but it's such a simple mod to do.... Car sounds like thunder without having the aggressive gearbox settings and the downshift blips ! Totally reversible too.

Place a self tapping screw in the vacuum pipe after you've selected the sports setting. Enjoy :biggrin3:

Access is in the boot, by the battery.

Hi, so I'm confused. Are there three exhaust settings?

1 - normal/comfort
2 - dynamic
3 - sport

?? Is that right? I'm only two weeks and 1200 miles in but loving the b8

No, the valves open at a certain speed in dynamic, open all the time in sport and never in comfort.
If switch the car into sport by pressing the gearbox lever down, the valves open. That's fine, but for general driving I find the gearbox shift/attitude too aggressive and the loud downshift blips are a desired taste for normal town driving.

With this mod, you get the valves open all the time, but the comfort of driving the car more sedately ?

Interesting, I'm still getting used to the subtle differences between modes.
I must admit the down shift blips are taking getting used to.

In mine, it starts closed until you select S, when it's open All the time regardless of reselecting D
Perhaps this is because I have engine sound set to dynamic in the individual settings and only ever drive the car under individual
Was the same on first b8 and also RS5

Ok so mine:

Start car in comfort - closed
Select Individual (dynamic engine sound selected) - noisier
Select sport from drive - another level of noisier

I find it only stays fully open if I select manual from 'S'. If I go back to 'D' it goes medium again.

I think.

And this mod, puts the the exhaust into the full in 'S' setting.
Which is, let's face it what you want with that lovely v8. Not too intrusive, either.

Nope, that doesn't work on mine like that. As soon as you re select D or reverse for that matter, valves close again.
I have the engine sound set to dynamic as well ? Weird !

I seem to remember doing something similar to the exhaust of my B7, but that was a long time ago. I've only covered a couple of hundred miles and I'm still experimenting but get the feeling that there's no perfect set up and the exhaust note is pretty quiet, even though I've set it to dynamic. I need to play some more but the biggest issue is the steering, I have it set to dynamic and it's a little too heavy but seems the best compromise. What do others think?

That is strange
Not sure this video will work for sound as it's hard to hear the difference on my iPhone speaker, but it shows no change when back to D

So - sorry for totally hijacking this thread.

Solved today with a play about - for me to activate individual (dynamic engine sound - same as sport) I need to scroll through the other settings first or select comfort and then individual again.

Seems a "bug" as I was assured this would not be the case.

On the topic of dynamic steering being too heavy. I agree on 20in rims but since I swapped over to 19in winters the dynamic steering is almost perfect. In fact the whole car feels better on 19un rims. Dynamic suspension still too firm though for day to day driving.
