So I went to B&Q for some white paint... (pics)

I wedged the pot of paint in 'securely' behind the passenger seat where it definitely couldn't fall over.

All would probably have been ok if I hadn't forgot about it and got a bit carried away playing on some twisties on the way home.

It didn't end well...

5 litres of white emulsion washing around in the footwell can never be a good thing.

So the only chance of recovering the carpet was to get it out asap. Fortunately I employ some people who spend everyday taking peoples cars to bits, so first thing Monday into our workshop I go. Once said employees have finished falling about laughing we set about taking the car to bits. 3 hours later I have a stripped out RS4.

Fortunately no paint got in to the electronics under the seat.

Jet washing the carpet amazingly got all of the paint out of the carpet. Sadly in one area we got a bit too close with the jet and it loosened the carpet pile from the backing and it was all peeling away. Bugger. :(

Once the nice folks at the Audi have finished laughing at my car with no interior apart from the drivers seat, "Sir, you do realise that it's not a works Transit van don't you?".

New carpet with assorted clips and new fixings for the panels that were taken out, that'll be £651 please sir. Expensive tin of paint this!

So until Friday when the new carpet turns up I'm the proud owner of the worlds first stripped out light weight RS4+...

On the plus side, it does sound awesome with no carpet or sound deadening in there.

Ha ha! Did that the first weekend with my Boxster. Forgot I had the paint in the boot and had a laugh on the way home. Until I opened the boot. :bash:
Good to see I'm not only one going full <beep>. :biggrin3:

How gutted!!
I did a similar thing years ago, but it was 10 litres of emulsion in the boot of my 8v golf GTI
Luckily I managed to sort it out

OUCH!!!!

For this reason alone, I do love the load area fixing kit in mine.

Would love to hear how it sounds though and just what the weight saving is!!!
It's all torque talk.

Yep, not speccing the load area kit was a definite fail, especially when it's such a cheap option.

I'll have to see if I can get a sound recording tomorrow.

I pretty much did cry on Sunday afternoon when I did this, I was pissed off with myself to say the least. The Mrs taking the p1ss when I'm outside with a soup ladle scooping paint out of the car didn't help much either!

Wow !!! .... I had a friend who had the same problem ....he took the half full tin back to B&Q and through it in disgust all over their floor :biggrin3:

Both parties now unhappy ....

He took it to a local valet guy and he took the paint out no probs without moving any carpets etc

Sadly this wasn't fixable without removing the carpet. Even if I could have got the carpet clean, there is an air vent under the seat which runs to the front and up under the dash. It was full of paint all the way through.

Although in hindsight using a jet wash on the carpet might not have been the best idea! A professional would no doubt have got the paint out and not killed the carpet in the process.

Ha ha ha... My family own an Indian catering company, when I was 19, I did the same with a big pot of chicken tikka masala gravy in the boot of my dad's Cavalier GSi. An orange covered boot with a funky smell just couldn't be hidden for long! My sympathies

Lol, as soon as I read the thread title I knew what had happened. Nice attitude but lacking in enthusiasm slightly... While the interior is stripped might as well lay some sound deadening down and run some wires for the big amps you are about to buy and get some killer bass out of that boot!
FYI I'm pretty sure I've seen an RS4 already stripped for sound deadening before so you're not the 1st but you are probably the 1st to do it due to paint spillage.

You're right you usually have to fight the lid of with a screwdriver! I put the tin in the passenger footwell and moved the electric seat back to hold it in place. I'm guessing that I went too far with the seat and pinched the tin slightly and loosened the lid.

When it fell over its fair to say I was pulling some sideways G's...

Luckily I had the child seat in the back (but no child!) with a seat protector under it. So the seat protector got covered in paint and not the rear seat, otherwise things would have been more expensive. :)

And Mike, you're mad. Sound deadening?? The car sounds way better with the carpet out. I'd far rather listen to V8 tunes than have more bass. The B&O is more than enough for me. 8)
