I'm being eaten alive ......

Or at least the car is ......

Had a bit of a rattle (turns out it was just a stone trapped in the engine area) , but the technician warned me about what he found !

Bloody mice are eating the contents of the engine bay !!.......I'm not quite down to 3.9ltrs yet , but it does look bad .
The technician says he thought he could see a small plug holder of the wiring being nibbled and warned me that if they eat through the wiring looms , it's an 'insurance job' to fix

The car is not garaged , that might have been the answer ....but I'm not sure what else to do to stop them.

Anybody else live in the country and have experienced a similar issue ?

Here's a quick pic .......rubber at the left and the felt heat pad just to the right.

My Aunts Bentley was nibbled at by mice over a winter whilst stored in her garage. It cost tens of thousands of pounds to repair, luckily covered my her insurance.
If you decide to store yours in the garage don't leave dog food in the garage with it :)

Get a big cat! My mate had the same problem in his Audi Convertible. Ate loads of foam inside the engine bay. They had made a nest out of leaves. They like the warmth of the exhaust pipes and engine.

Do you think that will work ?......not the bait , but the different spot ?

This is the first winter of living in the country , so my first 'townie' experience of country mice .....had loads in the house and been catching a mouse every week for the past 10 weeks.

Thought that I might have seen where they were coming into the house , so patched it up and covered it with loose gravel for good measure ......every morning , the stones are moved ....don't know if it's a predator or if the mouse knows where to go , or they smell eachother.

I caught a live one last week and let it go in the garden ......not now !!!...it's war !!!

My mum has a 500 year old manor house, she gets the same problem when the weather gets colder,
You just have to bait them, keep putting it down until they stop eating it, this can take a while.

Waste of money!! Just buy the bait boxes, other animals will be safe too and your save yourself a load of money, they will just do the same thing

The high frequency plug in thingies also work. I used these in my place out in Berkshire. If there is a way that you can park the car near a power point, or safely run an extension lead, I'd just leave the car parked near that. I know you'd in theory need to find somewhere outside, but were there is a will theres a way. Possibly run a cable to a IP rated weather proof enclosure & mount a couple inside the box. Leave that secured on the driveway & park the cars engine bay over it.

Hope that makes some sense?

These are about the only things I can think of .....found a few battery operated ones which I thought of ;

(1) putting in the glove box
(2) putting under the hood
(3) placing near the house

Has anyone got any experience of high pitched deterrents ...do they work ?

They can work, but it only takes one to mess up once and you could have a lot of damage done by a mouse biting through your wires, I would poison them, might not sound nice but it's effective!
Why not do both?? Bait them first
