Sports Package

Post by OL55 » Sat Jul 26, 2014 4:57 pm

Is it worth having?

I'm having V spokes so the additional cost is only £1k. After test driving one the other week, I wasn't a fan of the dynamic steering and I've heard negative reviews about the DRC, although I liked it on my B7. I'm not too fussed about the sports exhaust either as I plan to change this. Though would this still be switchable if I had an aftermarket exhaust (with valves)?

Then I think well it's only an extra £1k and inevitably it'll help for resale too?! Has anyone driven two cars back to back, with and without DRC?

Thanks Graeme, that's useful! Will stick with my original plan I think. Any advice on changing the exhaust? Is it possible to put in just a x-pipe and keep everything else stock?

To assist, there are 3 cars with different systems on here, though as far as I know only 2 videos.

Milltek: viewtopic.php?f=61&t=110290&hilit=milltek

Capristo: viewtopic.php?f=61&t=110092&hilit=milltek

There is also an owner sporting an Akrapovic system on his B8, but no video of that to date.... ahem...

There's also some footage & discussion of the system HMS make here: viewtopic.php?f=61&t=104971&hilit=HMS

And a discussion of sports vs. normal here: viewtopic.php?f=61&t=109271&hilit=milltek

And just FYI, I went from normal system to the Capristo, where as carsarecool went from the sports to the Milltek system. I am currently looking at specing a car for next year, if I do press the button, I will have the sports pack. There are a couple of reasons for me. 1) I believe you get different control of the exhaust flaps with the sports pack. With the normal system the flaps are only activated when the gearbox is in manual or sports or via individual - though I could be wrong. 2) I like the RS4 with Black Optics, so I would prefer the end tips to be finished in black & not chrome as they are on the normal system. I think that when it came to specing my car, someone had been on the :drink: , it has DRC & 20" alloys but not the sports pack (thus the normal exhaust), which ends up costing more.

HTH.
It's all torque talk.

What's been said about the DRC? Not as good as the standard setup? Not worth the expense? Fears of failure?

Stu - my intial impressions are that theDRC/Dynamic Suspension is very firm and gives a very taught ride - almost too much so on anything but the smoothest roads. Car travels through corners much better in Dynamic.

I have set my individual in comfort - bar the exhaust :)

I am glad to have the option - the sport mode can be a bit OTT for around town - so generally leave in individual.

Unless you are going to trick the suspension up I think the DRC will be missed during more spirited drives.

Food for thought - and these are only 1st impressions

Seeing as it's only an extra £1k, I'd go for it. As Graeme says there is little difference I'd definitely do it.

Dynamic steering is a no no for me and I rarely use the Dynamic Suspension......but I do have the choice. The standard sports exhaust is good but after 6 months I wanted more so went with the non-res Milltek.

At resale time you'll have the boxes ticked so less to negotiate down from....dealers will want the sports pack as it's a good selling point.

I've found that if I put Engine/Gearbox in Dynamic the exhaust flaps are open all if the time irrespective of the Exhaust setting in Individual mode.

Just goes to show we all like to do things in a different way,I drive my car in dynamic 95% of the time, I guess it depends on the local roads we use. Comfort to me is a little too soft
