how much for just an Oil and filter change?

Post by N7BSE » Tue Jul 22, 2014 10:23 am

Hi I have booked my car in at my local Audi dealer for an Oil and Filter change. The car is now 12 months old and i Have done nearly 8000 miles. I was quoted £ 357.00 )cant remember if that included VAT) or not. This is literally me wanting the oil and filter changed as it's not due for another year or 12000 miles. Seems a lot...

It is a lot.
Its a cost of ownership, it bears zero resembalence to the actual cost of changing the oil.
If you wish to retain FASH then suck it up.

But, you can Shop around nearby dealers and see who will allow you to supply your own oil.

So from what your saying it's more the cost of the oil than the labour? Ok cheers for that good to know and and thanks for the link

The oil will be at a huge premium and so will the labour as they see you as a captive customer ... So show you are not and Shop around

If it is just an elective oil & filter change rather than one required by the service schedule then buy your own (correct) oil and take it to any competent independent mechanic. Just make sure they don't scribble anything in the book or reset the service indicator.

Why do you have the car on long life, if you intend to service on a fixed schedule?

Mines on fixed at 12months/9k miles.

As above haggle with the price, and get a cost of oil/filter from the parts dept and check you're not paying more.

This is exactly what I have done, oil was dropped at around 8k
Why pay Audi shed loads of money when your over servicing the car to their standards, when it comes up on the computer take it to Audi to keep your service up to date, but if you want to drop the oil before then I would never pay their crazy prices for an oil and filter change, it just shows when you sell the car how well it's been looked after

dont know about others but mine is showing 50 days/2000mls for OIL SERVICE and OR 450 days/11900mls INSPECTION SERVICE so phoned local dealer was quoted 350 ish for oil filter change, was told oil filter only, spare 1ltr oil in boot screen wash 1ltr and health check on diagnostic machine (they did try to tell me it might work out cheaper just to have the inspection service depending on milage)ha ha so asked if i could supply own oil they said yes but would record customer supplied oil on service book, when ask why they said that it might not be the audi spec oil so asked what they would use (castrol edge 5/30 longlife) quick tip tap and 10lts castrol edge delivered from a well known auction site for £59.90.
so its going to cost me £150 for oil filter and labour for my service, said i did'nt need the top up oil or the screen wash as i buy that by the case
as a side note mine started using oil a about 4000mls so i did a oil change with a suction machine and its not used any more in 3000mls so that says loads about there longlife oil and it was black as tar when removed
any one using coolent or can smell it around the header bottle as mine has smelt from new and needed several top ups but cant find any leaks anywhere, also does the revs to 2000 rpm thing also the rattling drivers door, rolls forward when reversing up hills, several nasty cracking noises from drivers seat with pieces of white plastic found underneath seat, gearbox seems to have a mind of its own, really not impressed with this car but cant bring myself to trade it in for the dealer to make 10k selling it
