RS4 press reviews

Post by Graeme4130 » Thu Jul 17, 2014 11:24 am

Sorry, I nicked this from Pistonheads, but I thought it a good response to someone that'd claimed the RS4 had all bad press reports

I don't think it was a case of getting bad press reports... just very few glowing ones raving about it.
The issue it was always going to have is following the curveball of the B7.
The other aspect is that the B7 doesn't have any real competition where as even in the press links above there are numerous references to the Merc AMG options.

I really wanted to get on with the Mercs, but they just don't do it for me.

Same here
I was hoping facelift model might've been a bit more aggressively styled, 4wd and with a double clutch box, but I hear it's only the double clutch we're getting as estate is still hearse like and 4wd amg not coming to the uk
Not sure what I'll get to fill the gap between b8 and whenever the b9 RS4 makes an appearance probably 2017 or so

Seems a long way off. Said it before on here, but I really wish that the B8 was a wee bit better, it would be the default car for me.
2015 RS4 on the way
2014 SQ5
2011 Disco 4 HSE

But think how good it could have been with something a little different. Say for example a chopped down C7 RS6 engine...
going from 4.0 V8 to 3.0 V6 would be about 420hp, 390lb/ft and that's at quite a modest (for forced induction) 140ps/litre.
The Mercedes is nice but it's pretty much a dinosaur. You only have to look at the new M3/M4 and see what modern turbo charging can do.
I would say that like for like I'd expect an RS4 with the v6 option to comfortably hit 4 seconds from standing.

Don't get me wrong, I always prefer N/A where possible as I love the throttle response but for a road car it's hard to argue against it.

I'm guessing we'll see a B9 RS5 before the RS4 though.

Absolutely that. Imagine the B8 with the C7RS6 Engine in it :)
I'm quite keen to try that supercharged car as >600 BHP and torque sounds pretty serious. I just wonder how usable it'd be every day for reasonable annual milage...
Maybe one day...

I think bmw have the edge by a fair margin overall, there interiors have come on nicely over the last few years too which was always against them IMO,it is a huge shame the b8 isn't a bit better than it is as I'd also have one in a shot,I wouldn't mind blowing a bit on tuning like I did my b7 but that suspension set up just doesn't work on roads near me and there's no way I'd rip out the drc for ball breaking aftermarket stuff. The b8 isn't a bad car at all it's just it should be better than it's predecessor which in key areas of the halo high performance model it just isn't (gearbox aside) people will start tinkering with b8's soon as prices lower I will watch with interest how modding goes.Ive noticed a few new local ones in my area so may have comparison.

4 secs to 60 would be very nice,I don't think they will go that far though, perhaps early 4s just so as not to be embarasssed by halo halo golfs etc
