Engine troubles

Post by Chris-RS » Tue Jul 08, 2014 8:04 pm

Hi I'm new here,

Recently purchased a B8 RS4, and now it's in Audi having the engine removed :(

Story goes, I bought the car on the 10th of last month, it was a used one owner car with a clean history and 11k miles on the clock, on the 12th I headed for the LeMans 24h, car never missed a beat all the way there, however the day of my return about 70 mile from Calais the management light flashed up and the car started running lumpy, fortunately we had Vagcom with us so scanned the car and came up with multiple misfires. My thoughts were oh great coil packs however having got recovered and the car being delivered to my local Audi dealer. They proceeded to in estivate only to find the coil packs weren't at fault and it was something much more sinister which they were trying to find out. A few days later I recieve a call to say they have found one of the exhaust valve springs has failed/snapped :( so they are now in the process of pulling the engine and checking all the other valves and removing heads to check pistons and cylinder bores.

That's as far as they are at the minute I will try and keep this updated with more info as I when I get it.

Any of you guys encountered anything similar ??

Not an ideal first post granted lol.

CheeRS

Hi Chris
That sounds like terrible bad luck
I've personally not heard of anything similar happening in RS4/Rs5 with that engine
Hopefully Audi will deal with it very quickly for you, so keep us posted

Yeah it's far from ideal, thankfully it's still under warranty and my local Audi dealer has been very good so far, hopefully that continues.

Hopefully should have more info towards the weekend

The only thing I'd suggest you do, is get onto Audi uk about it as they're in a position to get you a decent courtesy car, as this may take done time to rectify and your dealer will probably only want to give you an A3

Well I'm currently away with work and not due back until end of the month so a courtesy car isn't needed at the minute but once I'm back on home soil if the car is still not ready then I shall take your advice and contact Audi UK.

Hopefully though the car will be fixed and ready for my arrival back home.

Never even thought about that tbh.

Certainly is, Infact it's still sporting the LeMans 24h Stickers lol.

But I've got friends in the trade keeping a close eye on things for me and reporting back things that the service dept may neglect to tell me ;)

Doesn't sound like Teesside Audi are having much luck with RS4's at the moment!

Just got mine back from them today after nearly 2 weeks to fix wonky steering...and guess what, it was fixed when I left, now wonky again :?

I do hope they get yours sorted on the first go. And if you need a courtesy car, definitely get on to Audi UK, other wise you'll end up with a diesel A4 like I did. :)

Had great service from Teeside over 6 years when it was Colebrook and Burgress

It's now part of Benfield group and standards have slipped.

They rave about that Rob guy who works there now....but all dealings I have lately haven't been the best.

Good luck

Well touch wood, upto now I've had a pretty good service from them. Also bought the RS3 from them and that's been in a few times for warranty/recall work.

tbh there isn't much where it could leak. it's part of the procedure to check the connections with the engine inplace and running so shouldn't need more than that.
With a car up on a lift with the undertray removed its very easy to spot leaks.
