What does the lens at the exterior front right grille do?

I notice it on some cars only. Is it for adaptive cruise control?

Yes, it's the radar thingy for the active cruise and crash guard.

Any idea why the rs6/rs7 has two lenses, one on left and one on right?

Does it have better radar or is it because it's adaptive cruise control is able to do up and down from 0mph?

Other thing I thought it might be was the night vision?

Yes - and triangulation of position of vehicle in front.
