Engine warm up...

Am I the only one who likes to stand outside the car when it warms up & eventually reaches that point where the engine makes a wop wop wop sound before dropping the revs?

dont see what the difference would be as the sound comes from the engine bay/secondary air valve bypasssmudge wrote:I'll do a before & after once my exhaust has been replaced......
I'm not putting the stock zorst back on, so I would think the overall tone of the system will be different no?eightfoot wrote:dont see what the difference would be as the sound comes from the engine bay/secondary air valve bypasssmudge wrote:I'll do a before & after once my exhaust has been replaced......
I always wondered why the noise was different for the first 20 or so secondseightfoot wrote:dont see what the difference would be as the sound comes from the engine bay/secondary air valve bypasssmudge wrote:I'll do a before & after once my exhaust has been replaced......
when you first start up the valves in the exhaust are open as they run on engine vacuum, fast idle produces no vac untill it goes down off fast idle then then valves close as does the secondary air bypass thats when you hear the fluffing noise as the idle comes down and the vacuum increases closing the exhaust valves and the variable inlet vanes and the secondary air system which helps with the cats warming up by blowing air into the exhaust (but dont quote me as i'm no expert)Graeme4130 wrote:I always wondered why the noise was different for the first 20 or so secondseightfoot wrote:dont see what the difference would be as the sound comes from the engine bay/secondary air valve bypasssmudge wrote:I'll do a before & after once my exhaust has been replaced......
What's the reason for it doing that ?
put the gearbox in sport will open the valves or select individual in the mmi car settings and set engine noise to dynamic, think mine is comfort engine, auto everything else, dynamic engine sound, dont think reving it stationary will open the intake vanes thou but you should hear them at about 4000ish rpm as you get increased induction noiseGraeme4130 wrote:Cool, cheers
They always sound much better first thing in the morning. Just a shame you can't boot the freezing cold engine to hear what it'd sound like under power at high revs with everything open
Replaced?smudge wrote:I'll do a before & after once my exhaust has been replaced......
It does, yeahMacdaddy wrote:Does the B8 still limit the revs when cold like the B7 did?
