Out with the old and in with the new

Post by Graeme4130 » Sat Mar 22, 2014 7:41 pm

Besides only feeling like yesterday when I picked it up, it's coming up to a year and 20k miles I've had my B8, and as the deals are so good at the moment, I've chopped mine in and ordered a new car

I thought long and hard about getting an RS6 instead, and I've been super close to pressing the button 2 or 3 times now, but the size of it just put me off even though it's an incredible car and both times when Audi had lent me one, I'd come away impressed, but a little unsure I could park it in any multi-storey car parks or outside my local Costa, which is where I seem to spend half my time

Anyway, I thought I'd share with you all the spec I've gone for and give you some of my considerations for things I've specced previously. Ignore the prices, but from the configurator, this will be my new car :

As some of you will know, I was really set on getting the sports classic grey, but it would've added 3-4 months on the order and then a further 2.5k to the cost, so I pulled out of that option as I think the misano really suits the cars from the ones I've seen.

I have the buckets in my current car and I love them to bits, but my elderly mother struggles to get in and out as does my wife, my sons booster doesn't fit in them and like the paint, they're a >£2k option, so both of those out of the spec basically paid for ticking ceramics. I've had a few issues with brakes on my car, so I didn't want to repeat these and as much as I'm unlikely to take on any track days in this car, it now means I have the option. Plus, the man maths calculation almost adds up as I'll keep this one a couple if years and 40kish miles, I think they look cool and they'll also reduce the brake dust build up

Sports pack and VSpokes are a no brainer for me, as again is B&O and the mesh inlays I've loved so much and black roof lining

For the sake of my cat and kids bikes left lying around, reversing camera was also important and I'd also missed having the brake guard for those times I'm shouting at the kids, ahem picking up a text, looking for my coffee or messing with the sat nav whilst on the motorway. Price wise, having the tech pack was way cheaper so I've also got ACC and invisible man steering (lane keep assist), which I'm unlikely to use, but will impress my kids and maybe scare the wife a few times

I love having a panoramic roof and it means I can also keep an eye on my bikes on the roof bars to see how much they're wobbling around on the motorway and it means I stand on the heated seats (in socks) at the race circuit with my youngest and still watch the car racing out the comfort of the car with the heater on in the winter

I've opted not to go for the advanced key again as although it was easy not having to mess with finding a key to get started and the start/stop button was kind of cool, I always found it a little unnerving when leaving the car as I never knew if it was truly locked etc and technically having the steal a key to steal a car is harder than some of the keyless car thefts I've heard of in the past

Privacy glass again is a no brainer for me with kids and bikes etc and I think the reversible floor mat that folds over the bumper could save me sitting in the floor in muddy mountainbike kit to change shoes

I know there'll be times I'll regret not going for either an RS6 or at least biting the bullet with Sports classic grey, but hopefully I'll sort a new weekend car out soon which'll fulfill the speed gap of not having a 6 and I can always get a grey wrap done on it if I don't fall in love with the red

will look great for sho Graeme

buckets would have completed it, but appreciate the points you raised, although would say you are paying £400 for full leather that comes as standard with buckets

so will it be delivered before end of June, i.e. are you getting the VWFS contribution ?

did they give you a good price on your current car ?

Yeah, I agree with buckets. I love them in my car, but just proving a pain for family 'falling' in and struggling out :)

Bath audi have really looked after me and I'm more than happy with the deal :bigblink:

Haha, it's not much much the parking ability, it's more that it physically was too big for some of the places I park regulary
The costa near my house where I tend to work occasionally, has pretty narrow slots and if you're parked between two cars close to the white lines, the combination of the width of the car and the length of the door means I couldn't hardly get out (and I'm a pretty regular 75kgs before any smart comments come in :))

Paul, I have driven a couple of gt3's and 997.2 turbo s'. But as yet are undecided but the pull of the r8 v10+ noise is a big draw. We'll see as I'm in no rush on that front

Misano - Christ that's brave! Hopefully someone on here picks up your Suzuka Grey and it 'stays in the family'

PS. No, I most definitely cannot afford it!

Misano , brave?

Misano is an epic colour on the B8 shape, even more so with optics.

Yep misano and black looks awesome. Would be my first choice. I love misano on my S3, looks great when polished.

I've been considering contacting Martyn about the Suzuka RS.

It's going to be nice to have a colour that gets a pop to it when waxed. Suzuka always felt nice to the hand, but it's not a 'shiney' colour like red of black

On a b7 it's not very flattering on an already fat car ... Makes it look like Vanessa Feltz in a tight fitting red dress .... Very appealing
