Order placed, Spec advice
Order placed, Spec advice
Placed my order this week and before I forget i'm just after a bit of advice form those with cars already as to which options work and which don't.
Here's the list so far:
The spec I've ordered:
Sepang Blue
Matt aluminium package
Carbon interior trim
Recaro buckets
Panoramic roof
Sports package - Sports Exhaust, Dynamic Ride Control, 20" wheels, Dynamic steering
B&O sound system
Parking system advanced - rear camera
hill hold
Advanced key - keyless entry with start button
Folding/dimming mirrors
Privacy glass
Sun window blinds
Heated seats
I've opted out of:
Lane assist- simply don't want it
Ceramics - i'd like but at a 4k option i'll pass.
Engine carbon- Looks great but at £450 for something only the techs will really see- (Might add it though lol)
High beam assist- the reviews appear to say its poor and not worth bothering.
Exclusive leather with quilted stitching- Yea looks awesome but £6900 extra!!!!!!
Wheels - I've chosen the V spokes as initially i though they are more rare than the rotors, However the more I look the more I prefer he con caved look of the Rotors so I may swap.

Looks bang on.
If you can justify 4k and you are keeping the car for some years then it is probably worth it for ceramics.

Re: Order placed, Spec advice
If it was me I would have the tech pack as it's great value, including ACC and side assist etc. Ceramics are a tough call, if it was a track car then it would be worth it but I'm not so sure for everyday and I agree with you on rotors, the arches just look way better.

Re: Order placed, Spec advice
Ceramics worth it, not only for the extra stopping power, but also the cost benefit over time vs steel which have a relatively short life expectancy but reasonable cost. Added benefit less brake dust.
Re: Order placed, Spec advice
Just read your thread on the R32 forum - sounds like a great spec your going for.Macdaddy wrote:Placed my order this week and before I forget i'm just after a bit of advice form those with cars already as to which options work and which don't.

Re: Order placed, Spec advice
I've heard the man maths argument but it just doesn't stack up for me. I rarely own a car beyond 30,000 miles and have yet to replace steel discs in over 30 years of ownership across an awful lot of cars. Maybe if I intended to keep a car for a few years there could be a financial benefit, but I'm not convinced. It would be interesting to see one of the motor magazines taking on a comparison of steel v ceramic, my only experience has been on track back to back in a 991s, I didn't think the ceramic car slowed any better until the brakes really warmed up, then it was obvious, but again I'm not sure how useful that is on the public highway.doodlebug wrote:Ceramics worth it, not only for the extra stopping power, but also the cost benefit over time vs steel which have a relatively short life expectancy but reasonable cost. Life expectancy of wave discs is around 15k. Clearly that aspect depends whether it is a keeper or not.blueaudi wrote:I've heard the man maths argument but it just doesn't stack up for me. I preferred the ceramics when I test drove both back at Millbrook. As it happens my car is on steel, but I didn't order it. The RS6 will have 'ramics.
You pays the bill and makes the choice.

As i said to you elsewhere{you know where i mean} you've ordered a sensible well specced car ,these added options have become "Bragging Rights" to some people who seem to think they are the Dogs B*ll*cks who have the best car just because they've got the most options ,you've thought about what you need in a car and not what some people would order thinking they are going to impress.

Re: Order placed, Spec advice
I think on a PCP deal speccing Ceramics would add about £80 to the monthly payment over a four year deal.
Would I realistically spend that much on replacing steel discs/pads over 4 years?
I probably do 4-6k a year and will keep the car up to 3 years, so it really doesn't warrant the cost especially as 90% of my journey during the week is town style traffic and i highly doubt i'll track the car.
I think the sensible option is no Ceramics.

Yes, Thought the blinds would be useful in keeping the sun out of the little ones eyes in the back seat?
Used some stick on ones in the RS3 in France last year despite tints and it seemed to work extra well.
Thanks for all the comments, It's all food for thought.

The privacy glass does a pretty decent job of taking the glare out already. My kids have certainly not moaned so far in my B8 in 10 months and they're normally pretty good at moaning on long journeysMacdaddy wrote:Graeme4130 wrote:Privacy glass + sun blinds ?

Fwiw, I'm ordering ceramics in my next RS4 as I do 20k per year and have a bit of a nightmare with the regular brakes. Plus I really have a hatred for cleaning brake dust on the VSpokes and this will eliminate that on the front all together

Bit of an odd post really as the thread title is 'Spec advice'. Of course people who like certain options are going to say get this option etc etc.blackphantom wrote:As i said to you elsewhere{you know where i mean} you've ordered a sensible well specced car ,these added options have become "Bragging Rights" to some people who seem to think they are the Dogs B*ll*cks who have the best car just because they've got the most options ,you've thought about what you need in a car and not what some people would order thinking they are going to impress.
