Pad wear.....

Anyone got any ideas on expected pad wear (steel discs). I've just been advised by the dealer that my fronts are at 75% after 16k.

I'm really not that heavy footed, I'm almost always driving around central London (over 80% of that time is spent at low speed) or I'm on a motorway run to Berkshire. Pad wear can't be that heavy on them surely??

I'm having a bad week by the looks of things!! If I'm coming across as a grumpy old git, its because I am! :P

I guess a potential £1500 plus labour bill is a bit of a shock when all it went in for was some sticky tape for the rvm........

Yep, disc and pad wear is quite high on this setup, that's why ceramics are good value.

you do like to worry dont you :bigblink: should have stuck the mirror on yourself,as for the brakes i would'nt worry till the wear light comes on it might last another 20000mls if you dont drive hard by then you might want to try something else :beerchug:

£1500 for a set of front pads? I would go to a reputable independent, ask them to confirm the state of the pads and get a quote. I had a similar experience a couple of years ago with a Porsche Centre somewhere near Birmingham, I happen to know a local independent and he confirmed that the pads had plenty of life left in them, when the time came to change I went to him for almost half the cost, warranty unaffected as they were genuine parts. I now use a Pork dealer somewhere near Leicester by the way.

Sorry, my bad... Front & rears, but they've included new discs in the quote as well from what I can see.

[quote="eightfoot"]you do like to worry dont you :bigblink: should have stuck the mirror on yourself,/quote] It's my old age...... as for the mirror, I tried myself, but failed, it's quite a heavy beast for blue tac.....

Regardless, I don't think that self fixing should be the solution here & Audi have confirmed (verbally) that there are some issues with early rvm mountings.

My light went on at 16k miles for the fronts. I believe the wear indicator is 80%
Mine were changed under warranty though (along with discs and calipers) just after due to the squealing issue for upgraded versions, which the new ones are causing problems too, but that's another story altogether
