Sports Exhaust

Post by RSChief » Thu Dec 26, 2013 12:10 pm

I've just ordered my RS4 in Sepang Blue from Perth Audi due for delivery in March.
Current finance offer too good to refuse although the wife made me sell the Q5 and the TTS!
Hope it's worth it....

I never went for the Sports exhaust as my friendly dealer said there wasn't much difference and that the standard sounds good as well. I'm worried now in case I've made a mistake as I defo want the proper V8 experience! The demo sounded great but that had the sports exhaust on it.

Can anybody comment on what the standard exhaust is like and any comparison compared with the sports option? Maybe I can still change my spec.

Cheers

hi,
mine does have the Audi sports exhaust and when its in sport mode it does sound like a beast or the sound it should make from the start but it's great to have the obtain to go "loud"so you really have two exhausts in one.
so If it was me again it would be a sports option all the way,
could go the aftermarket idea but why would you pay all that money just to change the exhaust which would involve a possible change in insurance?

get the sports exhaust if not too late then you will be able to scream it through tunnels and have the biggest smile on your face and it will still be covered by that all important warranty.
RS6 Grey and Loud. :-)

The sports exhaust on my RS 5 was pointless and silent.

The FL B8 RS in the RS 4 / RS 5 Sports Exhaust is better, and does sound good...but no way IMO worth the amount Audi charge.

All you need to do on the B8 RS is change the centre section with aftermarket pipe and bobs your mothers uncle...will cost c.£500-£700 and you'll get a much better sound than the std system.

Re. Insurance, won't be an issue...the robbing barstewards might charge you an extra £20 for the privalege...and don't even ask the silly question of whether this invalidates your warranty!

What he said ^ My RS 5 sounds infinitely better than the sports exhaust and it retains the valves so can be loud or quiet.

Meant to say, I asked my dealer at the time of ordering and he said that even the standard exhaust has the normal and sport settings and sounded good.

Just wondered what people thought of their standard exhaust if they have one?

Depends what you want. I have the standard exhaust and it's fine. But then I've got a child to consider.

C7 will have sports exhaust.

Yeah, I've got a 3 year old and one on the way so don't want anything too mad but still want the proper noise when pushing on in sports mode when the opportunity arises. I'm worried the standard will be too quiet and disappointing. I'm not really one for messing about with aftermarket stuff so the OEM sports will the best choice for me if anything.

Still undecided.

Go get a test drive in a standard car. I'm sure you'll find it fine.

I have a four year old. That's when I use the comfort and auto modes; individual for when she's not in the car. One of the reasons for drive select.

Yep, even my bonkers loud supersprint was as silent as stock with the valves shut

Mine has the sports exhaust option and it's a pretty decent noise with the valves open
It's certainly not going to turn heads at 1000m like some of the aftermarket ones, but it's a nice noise none the less
With the valves closed, it's a very quite system and perfect for lugging around my kids or elderly parents
To be honest, from memory of the demo car I had, the difference between the standard and sports exhausts are mainly outside the car in terms of outright volume, the difference isn't so noticeable from the drivers seat other than a slight drop in tone

I had the sports exhaust and it was a nice sound when in sport mode and under load

BUT

i got the milltek non res and the car sounds like a different animal, no good for little children's ears but it sounds amazing

you could get the milltek resonated and it sounds a little better than the sports exhaust.

I enquired at my dealer and they said Audi could use it as an excuse for any warranty issues "related to the engine". Pretty wide scope for them to refuse. It's put me off a milly.
