Newbie here, RS4 ordered

Hi all,

Just thought I'd say hello, new to the forum but not to RS4's. The forum is great, lots of opinions and heaps of helpful information.

I've been away from Audi for about 18 months and had been contemplating a B8 for some months, the decision was made after being invited by Perth Audi to an Audi Sport Showcase event, whilst there had a run in the R8 V10...... WOW! Also the RS6, what a car, felt a bit big for me tho and so was the price tag but what a car all the same! After a spirited run round Perthshire in the 4 I knew it was the car for me and then preceded to slap myself for selling my B7 :bash:

Ordered a B8 late November, have a build week of week 6, end of March cannot come quick enough.

Sepang Blue,
V Spoke alloys,
Black styling pack,
Sports Pack,
Tech Pack,
Sound Pack,
Panoramic Roof,
Hill hold,
Privacy Glass,
Convenience Pack,
Advance Key,
Phone Prep High
Heated front/rear seats
Carbon design in engine bay,
Plus a few other bits n bobs.

What opinion/recommendations/pros/cons/issues/gripes do you guys have on trackers? I have had one of theTrackers system on previous cars (which system it was I cannot for the life of me remember, Monitor maybe) and I am looking to put one on the new one but interested to hear your thoughts?

Cheers

Davie

Hi Davie, welcome back to Audi,

Nice spec, nice colour...just that wait now...booh!

I have always used tracker; often TRACKER Cat 5 Plus. Not the cheapest at 800 + 399 for three yrs subs, but it's peace of mind to know you've got it covered.

Oh and F.O.N bye the way!

Personally I think they're pretty pointless. Thieves know where to find them and dismantle then dispense. Makes no difference to my insurance.

Ask yourself this, do you want it back?

I think the Tracker is brilliant if your car goes into a garage for any work. You can see if they gave been out and about in it.
Love the sound of your B8, should be amazing. Not been in one myself but I love the look of them.

Cheers lads, glad to be back, can't wait to get it, it's gonna seem like a lifetime till the end off March!

Probably will stick a tracker on it for my own piece of mind, helped my insurance on previous cars but not so far on quotes for the new one, not that the quotes are bad. Definitely not be wanting back if it's half inched.

Same boat here. Wouldn't want it back. It's of no significance to me and gap insurance will get me a new one anyway, so wouldn't want it back after some scum bag had killed it
Similar opinion on tracker removals. Had a friend had his m3 stolen. Tracker was 'disabled' or removed within minutes
Only theifes that don't have the ability to remove them are joy riders typically, but then you certainly wouldn't want it back

Have to agree, Tracker is a waste of money and along with GAP and Wax treatment an easy way for the dealer to screw more margin. A professional thief will locate and disable within minutes and as Graeme said, if it's a joyrider you really don't want the car back. GAP is another con IMHO, my policy provides full cost replacement in the first 12 months of ownership, after that I can take out GAP via my broker for an additional premium if I choose to and if you really want to blow £400 getting your car waxed go to a reputable detailer.

I'd agree that GAP is typically a waste of money, but the inclusion of gap isn't in the salesman's margin, so if you can negotiate well, you can often get it thrown in FOC. My driving policy covers new for 12months, but Audi gap covers up to three years back to full RRP. At the mileage I cover, my car won't be worth half the £64k RRP at 3montjs should the worst happen
Don't get me started on paint protection - I dealt with another brand that wanted to charge £460 for paint protection. I knew that company that did it at the dealership and the charge to them was £105 per car

just come back from Finland but the car had the tracker geofence activated so total peace of mind - but do agree with "would you want it back" did say to the wife if it did go then great excuse to get the RS6 ....... bit extreme but silver limning and all that.
spoke to a detailer and his advise was any paint protection should be applied and left to dry for at least three days with no rain but then it will only last three months tops .... or a good coating of something like Swiss wax.

back to the turkey ....

I would forget the tracker - although they do work well !(had my 911c4s trailered away with a knackered waterpump and within 2 minutes, tracker alerted me) -
go for the GAP - the insurance will not pay out full invoice price if the car goes so I want that covered for peace of mind plus you can push a good deal on GAP with the dealers.
Thats the peace of mind I prefer tbh..

Great spec you must have ticked most of the boxes on the options list !!!
Did you get a good deal on it price wise??
I am looking for one just now and I`m interested in how little I should be paying :biggrin2:
