Picking up my RS4...

Post by P1 Dave » Wed Nov 20, 2013 10:35 pm

As most of you know I picked my RS4 up on the 14th, apologies for not really posting sooner, but I wanted to give a brief idea of the my experience and the service from Cambridge Audi.

We arrived at 16:00, it was starting to get dark, as we drove into the car park we noticed a glass walled room at the side of the dealership that we hadnt really noticed before. Inside this room was my car under wraps, lights on looking rather special. Through the glass we could see a large plasma screen with my audi configurator code already in and my car in computer form being shown in 3D and spun around. I am starting to feel rather special...

The receptionists were already for me and as soon as we walked in we had a very warm welcome and a slight wait for the salesman Dan to come down, such a little wait that she didnt even get to make our coffee... So with coffee in hand we walk in to the room that is only large enough for one car to see the beast.. We have a bit of paperwork to sort out in front of the plasma tv and to the rear of my car. This wait is starting to kill me.. Dan has already told us that he has a camera and will be taking the pictures for us so we can have a good dig about in the car, nice little touch and the pictures are on this thread..

Eventually things are sorted and its time to take off the covers.... Yes at this point I am rather excited

So now I have the car I have dreamt of for 6 years, I know its not exactly what others would order but thats why I ordered mine and you hopefully ordered yours.... I am just stunned as I hadnt seen the Sepang Blue before, nor had I seen the seats, I am used to sports cars with Alcantara so had ordered these seats without knowing what they looked like. I just had so many things I want to touch and play with... But first the boring part, the walk around.... First I saw how the petrol cap opened, a little silly, but when I bought my range rover this wasnt shown to me and I nearly looked a complete d1ck at the petrol station. Now the boot, I went for advanced key so seeing it open by itself was pretty cool... In the back was my paint protector stuff and boot mat, then I noticed there was an envelope. My partner commented on how she thought it was a nice idea that I got a thank you card, Dan gave a little chuckle. I opened the envelope and I couldnt believe my eyes, Dan had got me two tickets for Chelsea v Spurs, being a big Spurs fan this was out of the world and I was speechless, shocked and slightly over whelmed by the whole process... At this point things were a bit of a blur, so I will just show some pictures....

At this point, as you can see from the Mrs eyes, we had a rather large crowd of employees from the garage watching us, it actually looked like some of them were as excited as we are at this point.. We were then ready to sit in the car, so we get in and Dan goes through everything that the car has to offer. I have read the whole manual now and there isnt one thing that Dan didnt mention, but loads of things that I had forgotten. Just as we finish this the service manager and other heads of departments come in to introduce and reintroduce themselves to me with a promise that if I need anything. The service manager did mention that they have a 25 mile radius for service pick ups, but as they know my position with other dealers, they would be willing to come and pick mine up which would be nearly 60 miles away from them. As a final little gift I was given a RS suit pin that Dan had put aside for me.

Now its time to drive out, the worst moment normally for picking up a new car, especially when you have to drive it through a little gap. I am surprised how easy the RS4 was to drive out when I wasnt really used to it and it didnt have many miles on the clock. The drive home was a great experience, not about speed but enjoying the whole car (with a bit of power), the auto high beam is a nice tricky piece of kit that I will use all the time, the gearbox is just a dream compared to the range rover (which had a fantastic gear box). The drive home was a nice time to let it all sink in and I think I mentioned the football tickets a couple of times ;-)

I have had the car nearly a week now, I havent really done that many miles in it (150) but I have taken it down some Essex backroads that I know really too well and its an education in how a car, baring in mind I am keeping it under 6k revs, can just eat up a road with so little effort. Its a joy to look at, a joy to sit in, a joy to start, a joy to drive and the B&O sound system a joy to listen to. I know that this car cost more than my partners sister house in Stoke, but this car is much better than any house in Stoke can ever be....

I would recommend Cambridge Audi to my friends and family, sure some companies will give a bigger discount, but for a complete service and customer experience I can not fault them, I have spent a lot of money on all my cars in the past and no company has come close to what I received during this purchase

Excellent pics and an excellent write up!

Dealers get a lot of bad press at times and we rarely hear of the good experiences, this shows they do happen!

I bet every other customer in the place was wondering wtf was going on!

Enjoy the car! All of the above does not make my wait any easier! Haha

Hi P1 dave the car looks stunning, good choice on the alcantara as its what I am speccing too as I think it adds a bit of character to the stunning interior, how much louder is the sports exhaust than the standard system ?

Hi Guys,

I was a bit miffed really when Cambridge Audi suggested a week day pick up and their reason was that they can spend more time with me that way. As it turned out I got my car quicker for picking it up during the week as it wasnt ready the weekend before and Dan spent over 2.5 hours with me going through the car etc, so I do feel now it was the best suggestion.

Cambridge Audi have been awesome the whole way through the process, they have kept me informed every step of the way through the build process etc and at no time did they tell me something that has turned out to be inaccurate. Much better than my experience with Essex Audi, whom I will never go near ever again...

The Mrs is an Aussie petrol head, her dad has designed cars for TWR, BMW, Jag, Ford... That was an off moment while she was trying to work out who the hell was peering down at us from above!!

I love the alcantara hunter, it feels warmer when you get into the car first time, even thou I also have heated seats, but no initial shock... The seat certainly holds you better than the demo I sat in with the full leather seats and I just like the way that the alcantara looks. Its all personnal opinion and that is mine.

The sports exhaust is brill, on tick over changing over between the 2 you really notice the change in engine note, it gets a much deeper throb to it. On revs you get a lovely throatier roar from it, but the best bit is the change of gears when you get a proper growl from it when you change down... I have the sports exhaust in dynamic mode all the time cause it just sounds awesome, when my 2 year old daughter feel asleep in the back then I turned it back to comfort and the car was all quiet for her

I'm very jealous that you got some football tickets, you set the bar high there for Audi Swindon to meet when I next buy a new car - I'll let them see this thread too just to give an early hint ;)

I think last time I got some cheap champagne and a tshirt

With the range rover I did get an Off road experience for half a day, that was bloody brilliant and from Subaru I have had a few driving days, either testing new models or Silverstone experiences in existing models. I couldnt get over the football tickets as that really showed that Dan had put some thought into what I would like and had obviously worked hard to get them....

It's a nice touch by them, certainly
I might drop a few hints that I fancy a ski-ing holiday when I buy my next car ;)

Can't believe you've only done 150miles in it - I did 250 on the first day
Mine's 6 months old now and on nearly 13k

Absolutely stunning! Sepang looks darker there in the dark under the showroom lights - got a hint of Racing Mica Blue

LOL a skiing holiday would be a real touch!! Good luck!

We didnt get to leave the dealers until 18:30 and we had my dad dropping my daughter off at 19:00, so we were a bit time limited considering the 60 mile drive home... My record was 1000 miles in the first week of getting my Impreza terzo, the garage was surprised when I booked its 1k service in for the weekend after I picked it up!! Blimey 13k miles in 6 months, mine is a second car, of three so I only expect to do 8m a year in mine... I might regret that in a few months time as I know I am goin to love driving the RS.

Yes Sepang really grew on me under the lights of the garage, I think its a lovely colour in any type of light, but the showroom lights certainly did it 'justice'

It is hard when choosing a colour as no one has really invented a new colour for years, its like grey always reminds me of John Major

What's the relevance of the number plate? I'm trying to work it out, but can't..... TPD i assume are initials? but SP04?
