hi everyone, picked up my new rs4 a week or so ago have done about 350mls and i have noticed that every now and then i get a smell coming into the cabin that is crankcase emisions smell (think old car cam covers vented to atmosphire) it seems to be around the area on the o/s cam cover where the breather pipes come out, cant find any leaks or oil mist anywhere
now this could just be a heavy breathing new engine venting to atmosphere or a leak but i'm not really keen to go back to audi as i dont usually have good experiences there so if anyone has had anything similar then i would be releaved to hear thanks
purchased a dipstick today and the oil level is spot on so its not overfilled

Re: engine crankcase smell
I didn't get any from mine, although I have on other cars in the past
It's not unusual for blocks etc to be manufactured still covered in a wax or grease protective coating, which in turn, burns itself off through general use in the first few hundred miles
I wouldn't worry too seriously as the engine sensors would pick up any loss in pressure through a leak and if you're really worried, take it back to the dealer for a check over. You never know, you might get an R8 or new RS6/7 as a loaner whilst they check it over
I've always found Audi to be exception on immediate after sales care, so they'll bend over backwards to hell, I'm sure

Re: engine crankcase smell
Firstly I would definitely mention it to Audi for a couple reasons.
- there may be a tech note on this already.
- it registers your problem should any warranty issues arise further down the road.
New engine shouldn't vent to atmosphere - that's a big emissions no-no.
It might be the various sealants and assembly grease in the exhaust system and other engine bits burning off.
350 miles is still very very new so hard to judge on such a short distance.
