Re: Towbar for B8 RS4
I have just checked my currency conversion, it cost closer to GBP 1500 but yes still expensive.
Re: Towbar for B8 RS4
Not bad if you think about it, Land Rover wanted £900 to fit tow ball and electrics, i manage to get them for 270 of ebay and will fit electrics myself. Are they making extra modifications to the chassis or is it more or less good to go?
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar
Re: Towbar for B8 RS4
This could be very interesting.... it would be the one thing that the RS4 has never (officially anyway) been able to do, which just about covers every base.
yes £1500 is a lot, but then again it's £1500 on a £60k car, so is it that different to £600 on a £20k A3?
OP - are you in the UK or Europe? - I'd be interested to talk to UK dealers about it if it's now official

Re: Towbar for B8 RS4
I now have my wagon back. The towbar install is very tidy with 100% genuine parts fitted by the Audi dealer who supplied the vehicle. Yes it did cost but I believe it was worth it as I can now use the car for everything I need. I have just tried to attach pics but am on iPhone and it doesn't want to do it - go figure. I will post some next week when I have full computer access.
Re: Towbar for B8 RS4
I'm guessing the airflow at 70mph without towing and the increased airflow at 155mph is sufficient to allow cooling whereas at 70mph with an increase in load is not. Looking at how short the Audi V8 is in comparison to the JLR V8 it may be they are worried about an increase in operating temp that could cause cylinder block cracking near the liners.PetrolDave wrote:Audi have always claimed that there isn't enough engine cooling for towing - which doesn't make a lot of sense as it's not as if it needs more power to tow at 70mph than it does to do 155mph solo???535dboy wrote:I didn't think towbars were compatible with RS models although that could just be the older ones
I reckon it's just because they didn't want to spend the money homologating them for towing.
Or probably as you say they couldn't be bothered to spend the development money. Lol

The genuine Audi towbar and wiring to be fitted tomorrow. Apparently it has now been homoglated and is available for sale. I will post some pics when fitted.
Hi,
Did you get a tow bar fitted to your B8 by Audi? If so which dealer?
Cheers
Re: Towbar for B8 RS4
it is an option for S4 it seems but never RS.
With regard to the Q7, I have an S Line plus which i occasionally use for towing too so picked the auto fold out tow bar etc - the spec limitation then kicks in due to kerb weight as I couldnt have the pan roof without losing the rear 7 seat option!..

Re: Towbar for B8 RS4
Hi Kaiser,
I am in NZ and had the towbar fitted by the local Audi dealer in Christchurch. I do agree that the car looks better without it but I had to be able to tow so would not have bought the car if this was not an option - a small price to pay I guess. On the positive side, it should give me a little protection from a low speed hit from behind!

Re: Towbar for B8 RS4
Yes, you detatch the tounge from the frame that is bolted to the chassis.
Re: Towbar for B8 RS4
Hi 1199Panigale.
I realise this is an old post. And you probably don’t even have the RS4 anymore. Did your RS4 have DRC? I have one with DRC and I’m getting conflicting stories as to wether or not you can fit a tow at to an RS4 with DRC.
