And can I assume from these quotes that the typical B8 S4 owner is prone to making inaccurate sweeping generalisations? :bigblink:

I'm really not sure anyone is saying that the B7 is the greatest car ever. For what it's worth I think many of the posters on this forum have compared what they currently know about the B8 to what they have just now and decided that the £50k difference isn't justifiable to them...and that's all.

In much the same way that I didn't think you were saying that the S4 is the best car ever when you posted that you preferred the S4 interior to that of the RS4 or that the S4 is quicker than the RS4 in some circumstances on the S4 forum...er, were you?

All that people are doing is comparing two cars and giving their opinion.

So, do I think the B8 will be a "good" car? Yes I do, in the same way that the B7 RS4 is a good car and the B8 S4 is a good car albeit with a much blander exterior than the B7 RS :D

But do I feel the same way looking at the B8 as when I first saw the B7? No I don't...better interior nor not.

And do I want a drive of the B8 RS? Too right and as soon as it hits the showrooms I'll be going for a look.

Anyway, I'm now off to the B7 RS forum to start another "Exactly how brilliant is our car" thread...

I still remember the first time I saw the rs4 advert - first time ever after a car ad I thought 'I want that car'

Exactly, adsgreen.

I'm not a petrolhead by any stretch of the imagination, but when I saw the B7 it was, um, love at first sight...although, even then, I still wouldn't have argued it was the greatest car ever.

It may be because I'm 6 years older, but this new Rs4 isn't doing "it" for me in the same way.

I genuinely hope the photos don't do it justice and that the driving experience is better than the first few reviews suggest, but in all honesty I'm more interested in seeing what Danny's done with his car than I am seeing the B8 in the flesh.

A more modern interior and a chassis that I'm not going to notice is better 99% of the time I'm in the car aren't things I'd personally be bothered enough about to spend £60k+ to experience. However, 2 or 3 years down the line as a replacement for my B7 it's going to be a contender.

For me, it's much the same as when the 8p S3 came out. Technology had clearly moved on from my old 8l S3 and I understood that it was a "better" car, but, given the choice, I'd have had the 8l over an 8p...and I still would.

Must say i doid not liek the B7 compared to my B5 at the time even when i had the cars side by side th B5 look far more aggressive and lower but after driving the B7 that swayed it for me as with the B8 againj not conviced by the looks yet i would think it will be better in the flesh as was the B7 and will look forward to haviong a test drive in the B8 when the time comes

Your bang on there DK its something ive never mentioned but alot knock simply because they cant afford it in reality so go on to justify it by whatever means. It goes on here to a degree with the b7 to b8 transition,if the b8 was going to cost me 10k plus mine id have one on order and tune it to get some decent grunt as development occurs but 35-40k to get a well specced one ontop of my b7 value.......no thanks,im guessing a different breed of suits buy em on drip and they end up in enthusiasts hands a few years down the line.Im building a house at the moment so simply do not want a new car amongst what im doing.Im dissapointed with the power and handling unless it is actually different to an rs5 in terms of handling but i really like the look of it already and the gearbox and interior are great too.

I have to start by echoing a previous post, I remember when I saw the B7 RS4 launched, it was "love at first sight" and I do remember thinking "i must own one of those".

My average car ownership duration was 9 months before my RS4, and now I am just about to roll over 60k miles and 4 years of great motoring.

Before the B8 was released I had discussed with Audi's head office here and they offered to import one specifically to Dubai for me (they are not bringing the B8 RS4 over as part of the day to day offering here). Having thought about this decsion a lot, I shall not be taking Audi up on their offer, the B8 is not for me.

For me personally, my decision not to go for the B8 is a combination of no "love at first sight" and the B8 doesent move things on significantly enough to satisfy my soul that it is a good value proposition to change the B7 for a B8.

I will keep the B7 for one more year, and next summer take delivey of a new Panamera S, with some lovely options, that can waft me around in near Bentley levels of luxury with a sufficient 400hp at my disposal.

Pretty good write up in today's Autocar.

All of you placing orders - please don't spec Active Steering or 20" wheels - I'd like to be able to find a sensible specced one second hand in a couple of years time!

Will still go 20s but not part of sport pack now to avoid active steering

Are you risking ordering without having driven one, then?

Incidentally, just seen the pics of your wife's Boxster - very nice! Think I'll be trying to force one on my better half at some point ...

I've had various RS5s on loan for about a week in total and that is good enough for me and it sounds like this maybe a touch better!?
