Your on your own thinking the b8 is in any way a forward move in RS terms,I'd take a bill for fixing b7 drc no problem because I would get back a properly damped car, working tosh is just that sorry boys the b8 has had poor test reviews all round most commenting or referring to the b7 as the last proper one.Ive warmed to the look of silver and grey ones but there simply not good enough to warrant buying and running IMO,Sure a full chat hoon on great roads has good memories but wringing it's neck on a daily basis to get it moving just doesn't appeal,I can do my fave road much quicker in my b7 than I can in a b8,they don't settle well on minor undulations and frankly very little feedback through steering. My comments regarding running a high power tdi are only to suit my personal circumstances and appreciate others may do normal mileage.

Wonder if anyone will put b7 drc into a b8? Now that could hit the mark! or a b8 box into a b7!

Well I've owned a b7 for 5 years then a b8
I don't go on what someone else says on a car review, I take that judgment myself in the real world driving, b8 is a great car, you sound like a stick in the mud, you need to drive one for a while to get to know it properly
Question!! Have you done that??

I was tempted to chase you down to listen to the capristo, if I didn't have to run the kids about I would have done, I spotted you a mile off with the Le Mans decals on :beerchug:

LOL....

My kids were totally raving over your blue paint. I presumed they'd just seen a Lambo or something, then I looked up from trying to tune the radio into something decent & saw you flash by. If I wasn't with my mate & meeting others I would have turned around also.

I'm trying to find excuses for next Sunday....!!!

Long enough to realise I would need to spend on the engine to get some grunt ( same as I had to on the b7) but tackling the artificial feel of the steering and fidgety handling would be a real challenge and I'm not sure possible.Again I look only from my criteria,I have great little twistie bumpy roads all around were I live and unfortunately this is the b8s weakness.Maybe on mere 19's there more supple and you can get the hammer down early I don't know, far too much to address for me on a near new already expensive motor, again only my opinion, what is interesting though is how many b7 owners haven't stayed with the marque, there's only a wee few.

I can understand why as it has the same lump, if you look back at some of my old posts, I was dead against the 8 guess I warmed to it, Audi should have stuck a couple of turbos on though, for me I wanted something newer and the c63 doesn't do it for me, nice engine and that's about it. IMO what else is there??

I really don't know,it's very wrong I'm considering a diseasal as an option but the time has come there up there and audi have stood still with the 4 far too long,my son told me in no uncertain terms I can't buy one because it won't sound like "blue" lol I can't argue with him but have had itchy feet a while now

Macan Turbo?

Post by jjdsyd » Mon Jun 23, 2014 5:11 am

Hey guys, OP here... One further thought: Macan Turbo? My mate's wife just picked up the diesel Macan and I have to say they have really got the lines right on this car. The Turbo will look a lot better of course and I gather it is a 4.6 second car. Size seems about right (albeit I would still rather a wagon than an SUV).

Reviews are very good, handling and ride apparently superb (air suspension), twin turbo V6 (like the B9 RS4?) and you are getting in at the beginning of a cycle instead of the end. Interior looks legit as well with a proper new nav screen etc.

?

B8 car with b7 steering and c7 RS6 engine (but still b8 box) would be awesome :)

+1 - I think it's a better "day to day" than the B7. A day in a B8 may change your mind.

It's an interesting topic. I owned a B7 some years ago and it still sits in my top 5 of cars owned and while I like the B8 it didn't make the same impression on me, for many of the reasons already stated. I am looking for a quick, fun family sized car and not too bothered about running costs as it won't be doing massive mileage, the B8 ticks many boxes but I agree with the OP on end of line and old tech, at the price point it is a concern. I know it's even older tech, but I could hire a C63 estate for two years for 15k all in and hand the keys back just in time (hopefully) for the B9. Just a thought.
