Sorry to hear this Sam, id probably go down the road of rejection on a car of that age and price, especially if they are trying to cut corners, surely Audi UK wouldn't advise a recon box?

As much as it's going to be difficult to find another with the right spec, this one clearly has issues, and as you're somebody who keeps their cars a long time, once that warranty has gone you will have a potential money pit on your hands.

To be honest, I don't really want to reject the car as it achieves nothing. It took over 5 months including at fruitless trip to Scotland to find this example, a number of bad ones were dismissed along the way. So it'd be very hard to find another like it with such low mileage and over £10k in optional extras, in a very limited colour combination I want. It was a perfect condition car when I got it and had it not been for the gearbox issue, I'd be really happy owner right now. I genuinely feel that deep down it's a good car, that's just had an unfortunate start and a very questionable attempted fix by Audi.

This morning I decided not to contact Audi GB just yet, instead I took it back to the dealer who were very apologetic and have immediately put me into one of their B9 demo cars. I shall await their call on Monday on how they wish to proceed. Depending on that outcome, I shall then decide on a suitable escalation plan.

Generally I've found that if you try work with people, you will get a better result. Rather than resorting to throwing toys out of the pram and being unreasonable. I believe that I'm now in a suitable position to reasonably and rightfully request that a new gearbox is fitted, then perhaps Audi can stump up for an additional years warranty for further peace of mind and recompense.

It sounds like a right ball ache you're going through, but you actually do seem to have it under control. If a proper gearbox replacement and a lot of grovelling by them would see you right, that sounds the best option!

I definitely think a years extension on the warranty is the least they can do to be honest. Would you need to get the work checked over for a second opinion too?

I agree with your approach Sam - give the dealer a chance to put it right. Especially as it is such a great colour, and the car has all the spec you want.

Surely a good sign that the dealer has been apologetic.




Will you be breaking the B9 too?

What's it like? I saw it picked up a car of the year award from one of the car mags, forget which one though.
