Yes you are. ;)

Me getting the extra £1500 (above what you thought was achievable) off the cost of the car isn't going to close them down overnight, nor is it going to affect their families (as you so eloquently inferred). They chose to do that discount, so it must be possible for them and their particular circumstances. If it wasn't possible, they wouldn't have done it. You're right about one thing though, the time of year does have a huge factor. I walked into the dealer in the week between Xmas and NY, stated exactly what I wanted to the sales manager and how much I wanted off. A bit of back & forth ensured, but the end result was achieved.

Taking your thoughts and put the boot on the other foot. If I should lose my job tomorrow and I need to sell the RS back to a dealer, will any of them take my personal circumstances into consideration and offer me a 'fair' price? You can sure as hell bet they won't. They will squeeze every penny out of a deal to give the lowest price possible.

And this is it I guess the wider topic of mutual respect - I am getting soft then!!! lol - we want to get the most out of them, and they want to get the most out of us. And if that is the precedence - this is where we end up :-)

On a heavily discounted car, after tax, thats exactly what they put in the bank
I happened to be having some beers with four different Audi salesman from three different dealer groups this evening - including the ones you've mentioned, this statement couldn't be further from the truth. Your salesman may have you believe this, he'd be better off moving to Dacia if he's only making £100 an RS 4!

You mean well, and I don't doubt your post was meant with good intent, however, 99% of your first post, I'd have to completely disagree with going off the first hand factual knowledge I have, but hey, as long as you're happy and get the deal you're after, that's all that maters. Enjoy your RS 4. :thumbs:

LOL! You still not getting it!

Just how many cars do you think an Audi salesman shifts in a year. Given their basic salary is pretty slow, they' have to shift hundreds of cars at £60 a car just to afford cold beans with their bread, let alone a toaster !

I asked an Audi salesman, who's a friend of mine (not in a dealer I've bought a car through, I might add)
Of course the numbers are variable depending on how many units you've sold in a given period etc, but roughly, on the sale of an RS4 ;
Car sale around 0.5% retail (55k RS4 = £275) - assuming monthly unit target has been met/exceeded, as they wont get that on the 1st so many units up to target
Options - around 2.5% (5k options = £125)
Finance - massively variable, but realistically he said he could expect £150

Based on that rough example, that'd mean the salesman gets around £550 on a well spec'd/financed car once monthly targets are met - he said it doesn't change too much if car's discounted as the franchise will hope/expect subsequent on sales and servicing/warranty work
This is obviously based on a certain franchise, and others may be very different

Yeah, thats a good point actually, what i'd understood is that the percentage discount is how the commissionable pay is calculated. The finance, autoglym, gap, etc etc is where these guys can do well. These people do better to sell high margin normal cars, vs. Our heavily negotiated performance editions.

My friend, and there is the point, it is you in fact who's not getting the point. I have said all along, and read the thread.

Do i sell the high performance - low margin, low pay car at low commissionable pay, OR do i sell loads of standard priced and extras taken normal a3's etc, where i make considerably more cash???

You are mental if you are thinking that an rs4 pays these folks any better. If it was me, i'd focus on the fast selling cars - where btw they are earning very comfortably indeed. And why shouldn't they??
