I've heard about this article, but I've never actually managed to find it. Are there any links to it online?

If it is the case then how will Audi keep the B8's values artificially high in order to stop a glut of the cars being handed back FOC under the PCP value T&C's? :)
There seem to be several linked articles, all with some facts and some speculation:

And don't forget that a US "2016" model will actually go on sale as early as August 2015...
You're quoting articles (some 2 years old!) designed to speculate and drive traffic to websites. Nothing in there is an actual direct quote from Hollerweger re it's launch date, unless I've missed something...?

There are several direct quotes from Hollerweger in them if you take the time to look :biggrin2:

Nowhere is there a quote saying the RS will launch at the same time as the B9. All it says it that it's been confirmed the V8 will go due to emission regs " There are nice six-cylinder engines with high power", suggesting it'll be a V6. Also the only other quote is "In former times the RS models have been at the end of lifecycle to keep production constant, but we now think about bringing RS models much earlier in the lifecycle", but theres no specific timings. The most recent articles suggest it might be 2016 launch.

And since most of those articles are aimed at the US market "2016" means for the US 2016 MY, which starts in August 2015. Audi start manufacturing cars with the next model year VIN numbers as early as June (e.g. my B7 RS4 was built in June 2006 and delivered in July 2006 but has a 2007MY VIN number).

Plus, look at how the history of RS model launches has evolved:
- originally there was only 1 RS model in production at a time and that was introduced very late in the model lifetime.
- recently there have been multiple RS models in production at the same time and the delay from introduction of the base A model to the RS model has reduced to a few months (the 8V A3 -> 8V RS3 & 8V RSQ3 being a great example of that, remember the 8V S3 was launched at the same time as the 8V A3).

It's a sad fact that RS models are no longer "runout specials" - they are seen by Audi as mainstream models and have to contribute towards their quest for greater sales than either BMW or Mercedes.

I am 100% confident that the B9 RS4 will be a TT 3L V6 and that it will be available for the 2016 MY. You may disagree, but in that case we're going to have to agree to disagree.

So just to clarify then, contrary to your original post in this thread which said:

"The head of Product Development at Audi has been quoted in a US magazine as saying that they will start deliveries of the B9 RS4 (which will have a twin turbo 3L V6) at the same time as the A4 and S4."

What you actually meant to write was, "I've read a bunch of random speculative stuff on the internet and I reckon this will be the case"

Two very different things. You may be right, but your opinion is about as right as mine is.

Back when the B7 production finished we had exactly the same speculative posts about is my B7 value going to drop? will the B8 be out sooner rather than later? Audi reported that they would be bringing out more RS models and that they would introduce them earlier which by in large is what they did.
If there is going to be a B9 then I am sure B8 values will be effected in the same way other brands models are effected when a new version comes along. Have a look at E92 values and see what they are like if you are concerned! Otherwise buy the car you want as its unlikely values are going to go the way of say 993's.
In reality the cost of a B8 isn't too bad when you consider 8 years ago when I bought a B7 its list price with options was 55k and I paid 51k, the B8 has much improved tech and can be had for around 56k after discount!

OK, I'm at work so I can't surf the web to it's full extent unlike some :bigblink: and you don't want to hear the news that the B9 will be hot on the heels of the B8 (how few months separated the 8P RS3 and the 8V RS3?). But that's how Audi are working now - they want the maximum number of models in the maximum number of niches to maxmimise their sales.

Your mind is made up...

I have to say I'm more inclined to agree with Km, as the residuals are very good. ( I'd say on a par with the RRS I've got, given the higher value of the RRS )
Audi won't be wanting a load of used stock being handed back after the finance term is finished, with people then not reordering.
If, like you say v8, a new B9 RS4 will be out in August, this means all the r&d is already done and the car signed off.........
I don't think so.
It's 18 - 24 months away, and no, I'm not saying that because I've just ordered a B8, its just logistics.

Audi UK seem to think it's going to be later in the model cycle as usual, but then they only hear what the factory/R&D team want them to hear and Audi Germany do love to throw a curve ball from time to time
If I was a betting man, I'd suggest it'll be 2017 launch with an 18MY at earliest

Everyone seems to bring up how early the Rs3 and RsQ3 came out after the models were launched. Realistically both of the rs variants where launched about 2 years after the models were launched.

Q3 launched 2011
RSQ3 launcehd 2013

New A3 launched 2013
RS3 hopefully this year

So following on from that I would say 2017 sounds about right if they follow the same formula. If it was to be released with the B9 them I'm sure we would have seen a mule at the ring by now.

Me personally, as a soon to be new rs4 owner, dont really give a toss when the new one comes out. I bought the car because I loved and want the car. I didnt buy the car to worry about when the new one is coming out.
