Heads Up - Tyres

Post by carsarecool » Mon Mar 16, 2015 8:48 pm

Well, first proper rain since I put the 20s back on and I now realise what a great job the winters tyres did. The Pzeros are all over the place losing traction and tram lining. . I think I was a bit to early taking the winters off. Got 4mm all round on the Pzeros so they aren't 100% worn. P{S2s next....they better be as good a some say.

I think a batch of the later cars came with the BS tyres.
They're awesome on the dry, but not so good in the rain
I had them on my last loaner before my current car arrived, and it was liking having track tyres :)

My Pzero's are well past their best now, so have just ordered some Pilot Sport 2's
Swapped the Pzero's for them on my last car when they were done, and I found them to be decent
Had them on my B7 too

Pzero's are decent when they've got a decent amount of tread on them, but once past about 5mm, they're not so great in the wet

Mine's on Bridgestone's, car was delivered in January and they've been ok in the wet and cold, but not brilliant, they also suffer quite a lot of tramlining, especially under hard acceleration. However, as the weather is improving so are the tyres, fantastic grip in the dry and they seem to be wearing well. I will probably try the Michelin's next, can't believe they are any better in the dry but they may be a better compromise.

Heads Up - Tyres

Post by carsarecool » Mon Apr 06, 2015 8:57 pm

I took the car out for a blat early yesterday morning. The road was damp. I found it really busy under hard braking (my B7 was the same), requiring input to keep it in a straight line and it was tramlining horrendously too. The switch from winter 235s back to 265s was a revelation to ride but the PZeros really do seem like they are "going off" and handling is a bit hit or miss. Had a trip to Homebase for the bi-annual BBQ purchase today in the sun and they were very squirmmy under hard cornering.

Maybe it's just my driving!

What's the difference between Pilot Sport 2 and Pilot Super Sport?

My RS4 is running on Toyo Proxes T1, 20".

Found them an improvement on the Pirellis (which were standard on my 2012 car) both in grip, wet weather confidence and ride.

I've used the toyos before and found them very grippy but wore out quickly like you said. Seem to recall them being better in the early years and not as good in latter years.
