That's not typical though, look at the grief ollys had selling his RS6, even at a give away price.

The deal is on the table for me, now, waiting n weeks to flog the car and that would have passed.

Maybe I just got lucky.

Because the B7 is so rare in the Middle East I am quite frequently stopped in traffic and asked to sell it. In the past month I have had two unsolicited offers to buy my B7, which have been perfectly timed as I am soon to put it on the market now I have ordered my B8 RS4.

I've had mixed experiences, some good, some truly terrible on my own cars over the years

What sealed the deal for px'ing was a non forum friend had a deadful experience recently with a B7 saloon he was selling. He had someone come to see it who seemed genuine enough and was insured to drive it who drove like and idiot, over revved it on downshifts and crunched the gears in.
Then after a few more time wasters, another genuine seeming and insured driver crashed it and it took him 4months to sort their insurance out as the guy was claiming mechanical fault for an accident where he simply banged a curb exting a corner and twanged the rear side into a lamppost
It may have cost me a couple of K to PX, but the reduced hassle, potential problems and saved time was worth every penny

Private sales can be straightforward, but you need a few things to be true

1. A car that is more or less perfect and wants for nothing (I.e forecourt ready)
2. A sensible price (I.e lower than a dealer)
3. A proper advert with proper pictures

And for godness sake, never let anyone drive the car! Insured or not...its not worth the hassle...it that's puts them off, so be it - do I look like I give a <beep>!

I understand doodlebugs position on not worth the hassle, but worth a cheeky ad on here and pistonheads if nothing else.

Of 95% of my previous cars I've sold privately they have sold to the first person to view...including a £70k R8 V10....

You'll always get timewasting joker batty boys...like the Dick who sent me a Best Offer of £500 on ebay for my V_Spokes!!

Just laugh at the fact they are numpties and move on...

Don't worry about that <beep>, I'll take them off you for £550 :)

I agree on other points to an extent, but I knew my car was soon to need tyres, discs and a couple of minor cosmetic things that a dealer could sort easily, but would've cost me an arm and a leg or take the hassle of negotiations with buyers.
As it happens, dealer offered me a very good PX on mine, but still less than private sale value (maybe £1-2k depending on how long I wanted to wait)
FWIW, My car's just gone up on pistonheads though the Audi dealer with all the things sorted for £24k

Yeah, he seamed a good guy. Still a smarmy, overconfident salesmen like you get in the car sales industry, but seemed a nice lad and was easy to deal with

I had to take it back into bath Audi for the day to get a small stone chip fixed, so they lent me their 2013 R8 V10 demo for the day

The car's not a monster spec, but does have ceramics, which are really exceptionally good
The v10 engine's an absolute beast and my RS4 felt really quite sluggish in comparison after 300 miles in the R8

Very nice bit of kit

Nearly forgot - the seats are rubbish in comparison to the RS4 buckets in my B8

Just the sheer amount of bite available and no fade what so ever. I did 300 odd miles in the car, including a few laps of a little loop I have near my place. This loop includes some quite serious speeds into heavy braking and in my RS4, the brakes start to fade quite quick. With the ceramics, the brakes were the same as the first stop right up until I finished.
Admittedly, they were little grabby on the road in normal driving conditions, but impressive non the less.
In a car like that, that's likely to see a reasonable amount of track work, they're a no brainer

Unsuprisingly though, the car didn't seem that 'special' considering the £127k price tag of the spec I had
If it was my money, then I'd still be looking at putting a bit more in and getting a 458 or whatever the Gallardo replacement is going to be.
I've not driven the 991 Turbo yet (obviously), but the 997 turbo S is a nuts car and the 991 is very capable too, so I can't imagine it being bad.
I hear the R8 V10+ is the one though

I have to confess from my time at Millbrook I far preferred the Ceramics on the RS4, if I'd ordered a car it would've had them. As it is I couldn't find what I wanted with ceramics so steel it is.

I don't really see why you'd go R8 V10 and not have a plus. Agree that the 991 is going to be a serious contender and likely to be a nicer place to sit.

I too preferred the ceramics on the B8 from the Milbrook day, but I just couldn't justify the extra cost on my own car and the potential of smashing one with a stuck stone or some other hugely expensive catastrophe.
Plus, my RS4 gets used as a daily car and it just doesn't get used hard too often or on a track, so I don't need them tbh.
The ceramics on the R8 seemed harsher and far less forgiving than I remember them on the B8, and certainly a lot more 'grabbier' in normal driving. Maybe time's changed my perception, who knows

Re the 991 turbo. It's a really great looking car from the pics I've seen, but I just couldn't say the same for the R8. Sure, it looks 'purposeful' but it's no looker IMHO

The next one's a good looking car though, and I suspect it'll make the current one look very old hat, much like the new caymen/boxter has with the last series
The new R8 looks remarkably like the new NSX though as you'll see in the below comparison, which is random ;

I quite like the R8 but I think it is very colour dependent. Seen pictures of one in Estoril, looked cracking. Agree re 911 comparison though. At the end of the day it's a six year old design now, change is due.

The pics look very Lambo.
