I also didn't go for the pan roof. I personally wasn't bothered, but when it came to trade in every dealer I spoke to said they would have given me £500+ more if it had the pan roof because it's the one option everybody wants. 2 dealers even refused to consider the p/x due to the lack of Pan Roof. As these cars get older they do become very spec sensitive, so make sure you knock them down for the lack of pan roof, else you will struggle in a few years time when you come to sell.

That's interesting, I personally avoided the pano roof because every sunroof I've ever had (including pano on my mrs' new c class) has been an extra source of rattles or squeaks from seals and after a stormy autumn, crap from trees getting blocked in drains causing leaks on older e46 3 series put me off too. I guess for a new buyer £500 more might be worth it down the line, but I think I'm happier not shelling out the grand or so, especially given I darent open the windows let alone a sunroof lest my precious remaining hair let go it's tentative grip!
One thing I do consider with used cars though is definitely things to go wrong as they get older, especially with things like advanced key (didn't get due to theft issues on my x5) suffering interference from newer technology as it bounds on, prime example, when I turn on my old MacBook, it blots out the dab in my living room due to wavelength interference or something!
