Hate to pee on your chips, however if they wouldn't change the tips on a 6 month old car without a fight, then stated "if these ones go, we won't replace them" I wouldn't hold much hope for them honouring a 2 year warranty on what they seem to regard as a consumable. Same as buying a new set of car mats and complaining the pile is flattening after a year in audis eyes!
The most frustrating thing is some sets seem to last and others degrade straight away. If all of them were rubbish, we might have a case. I don't think those who have experienced problems drive their cars in a drastically different manner to those who haven't!

My plan, when I can get the time, inclination and find someone I trust to do it is to still get the trims off and powder coated. A house move is stalling that for the moment but long term that's the plan.

I have a good relationship with my dealer and they have given me a lot of goodwill repairs on the 9 Audi's I have had from them over the years, I don't want to fall out over a set of trims that in all probability will degrade again within a short amount of time. Yes its a cost but powder coating will sort them once and for all I'm sure.

So I had my trim replaced by Audi under goodwill a couple of weeks ago after the bottom part of the trim was pitted really badly. Noticed today that the new ones are starting to go in the same place. No idea what is causing it, either something coming out of the exhaust or crap from the road.

I've cleaned them and applied a thin layer of grease to see if that helps.

Petrol cars exhaust gasses mixed with water etc create acids that rot exhausts. This is why petrol cars go through exhausts quicker than diesels. Saying that, mine has 44k on the clock and my exhaust trims are still good, had it since new.

have you got the "mythical" recommended cleaner that audi recommend? they changed mine and made a 50% contribution of goodwill, and supplied the cleaner which is being used weekly and if they go again they can bloody replace them

I will dog you out the part number for it.

This is the reason why I didn't go through with the goodwill on mine,
mine are bad but have stopped pitting but thought if I had got a new set they could turn out worse! and I couldn't be dealing with that.

As you say, its either crap from the road (but then they would have all turned out this way!) exhaust gasses or something in the
manufacturing process to cause this to happen.

Good luck with the new ones

Get the new ones and have the old ones powder coated!

If mine start to go I will get them powder coated, they are 22 mths old and OK so far.

Did think that and also thought why waste the money on another set,
might as well just powder coat the first set thats buggered.

22 months is pretty good going you might have good ones that don't pitt, a bit like Rivs.
Noticed mine went within only 3 months

Mine have been on 6 weeks and already the paint is coming off, going back in tomorrow for a service won't be a nice conversation with them

Incidentally, If anybody has a spare set of trims that will fit the 2014 B8.5 I would be interested. Doesn't matter if they are silver or black as they will be powder coated anyway. If I can get a spare set It will save me down time on the RS4.
