I've done about 3k miles in c7 RS's, so can make reasonable comparison, and it'll be my next purchase too, but only as new RS4 is a few years away

Here's a few of my own observations
RS4 is significantly slower in a straight line, but corner speed is greater (I've also chased a mate driving my RS4 hard in an RS6)
Rs4 sounds much better
Gear changes in RS6 are pretty vague and slow in comparison to RS4 DSG
RS6 is a bit 'too big' for my day to day life
Rs6 is a much better cruiser in both air and sports sus options
Rs6 returns marginally better MPG
RS6 turns in and handles significantly better than a car of its size and weight should - hides it's weight even better than my old M5 did
Rs6 torque wave is utterly addictive
Even with deals, RS6 is a lot more expensive than RS4
I wouldn't want to track an RS6
Rs6 engine in an RS4 with a DSG box would be a wonderful thing indeed

I've been looking a 6's on Audi's site too.....prices are now palatable. It seems a logical step up. I'd struggle with the extra weight I think....its a big car too. I think I'll hang on to mine as the px's seem to be staying inline with its value to me ie, it's still got a deposit it for the next car. I don't need the extra space. I've also been thinking about a golf r, a mate of mine has one and its proper quick. Not a V8 but very entertaining.....a fantastic chassis.

The last sentence is the absolute truth.... I'm waking up on the sofa on the post wife argument rs6 dinner!!! Chuckle.

For me the RS6 outside of london is the jump in and get the job done car. The RS4 is the "pleasure" accuracy and racing v8.

This is a hard one - I want both!

So The verdict.

The Rs4 and the RS6 are VERY different cars. And both GREAT but different, let me explain.

I still have the 6 until the morning, and just jumped in the 4 to grab something from the Shop.

The 4 feels weightier and instantly more connected, I am very surprised about how the 4 felt after the 6.

What I loved about the 6?

The Engine and the torque, the pops and crackles are amusing and the ability to chew up a road is like nothing I have ever driven, overtaking is delightful.
The Matrix headlights are just amazing, and they keep you very awake and switched on - I'm not sure how they do that, but they just do
The space is useful with kids, gives me scope to add on a dog and and extra little one
The MMI technology and the dash is amazing, my entire phone directory which is more than 2000 contacts came over, and by plugging the iPhone in via USB it gave me access to my full apple music library (even if in iCloud) - (if I buy the USB adaptor for the 4's mmi will i get that?)
The touches like the door entry sills
The sports exhaust is noisier than the 4
This one has the parking advanced pack which is incredible

what I didn't like

This one was on Air and not DRC (no dynamic pack) which made the 6 feel like a range rover to a certain extent, very floaty?
Gearbox - it is not as good as the 4 by quite some margin, jumpy at times
Blind spot (huge)
In London it is BIG.

Conclusions on spec if you do buy an rs6

Dynamic Pack (Ceramics are not needed)
Parking Pack advanced
Blind spot monitor
Advanced Key
Pano Roof
All the tech on the MMI including connect
Big Wheels
Audi Connect with Phone Box (Brilliant)

Possible B&O (Bose not as good as 4's B&O)
Convenience Pack
Privacy Glass
Assistance Pack
Head Up display

And a shout out for the B8

The B8 is a much more resolved package, being lighter and with a screaming V8 it has massive character, it is also much easier to own in London. Also feels much more connected, having just jumped back in mine I thought I'd be thinking, oh dear - but I simply wasn't, I thought, wow - this is wicked and very connected "chuckable"

The RS4 is in no way lacking versus the RS6 - I don't know if you are all getting this, but do you get my point about them being very different and both very valid?

B

Oh a final note - someone made the point about the VAG dramas at the moment, I do believe that R&D budgets / bandwidth will be impacted whilst they fix all those diesels and smaller petrols, the sensible thought is that the ability and resources to make the next gen of RS's great will be impacted. The RS4 B8 and the RS6 C7 maybe the best for a while.

This is not helping in any way especially as a B8 has come up for sale with almost the exact spec I've been looking for and is half the price of an rs6. But I'm not sure the B8 is enough of an improvment over my B7.

Hahaaa! Same here ish

The RS6 in my mind is not an upgrade from the RS4 B8, it is simply different - and in a very valid way.

I'm just thinking out loud here to give some final clarity.

How do I feel?

Well if you are buzzing around town most of the time, want to be agile and on your feet "dancing" then the RS4 is the better fit. Of course the 4 will do big roads really well too.

If you are on stretched out roads, aka the A31, or a motorway, or the lovely long straight roads of the New Forest then the RS6 is better. But again of course it does town too!

Also

"With great power comes great responsibility"

The RS6 has the ability to hit numbers on the speedo at unbelievable pace, and stay there, and not make a major fuss i.e. you can lose the fact easily, in any weather.

I reckon the RS6 could be an easy license destroyer, without great restrain!

On another note, M6 at the lights last week, poor chap nearly went sideway as I shot off... Love the Quattro :Kissmyrings:
He clearly didn't know how to drive:)

They are a bit of a boat, but so's everything in this sector. No Mfctr yet can create a car that can hide 2 tons in weight.

Currently the R35 GT-R stands out at being the best at this, however they're lacking in a lot of other ways & it's taken Nissan quite some trickery to hide that weight, however they did do an amazing job.

The 6 comes very well specced as standard, so unless you want toys, you can easily spec a 6 with only £3-4K of options and it will IMO suffice. Nardo, 21" black wheels, Sports exhaust, black pack and privacy is my spec.

That's exactly what my one will look like when it arrives in 2-3 weeks. Also have pano sunroof and a couple of other bits (parking, rear airbags etc).

I still had the RS6 today in London about my daily duties.

This thing is huge, very big to park in londons tight car parks, massive on the road. It is a beast - the RS4 is WAAAAY better in London.

However in the vague hope I can make a dual RS strategy fly I've ordered an RS6 performance edition car.

I've been out in the RS4 tonight, there can be NO doubt that it is amazing; and chuckable, and frankly I'm delighted to still be driving it and have a good amount of time before a difficult decision faces me.

I don't blame you for going for the 6
To me there's no point in having both, I would just chop the 4 in for the 6 or just sell privately
