Better than it driving itself which is what it feels like.....auto-change up in auto mode only.

To stay in control

The B8 S4 used to do my nut when it changed up itself in Manual

I'd take a gear change over a kangeroo'ing rev limiter every time

But that's the point.

Putting the stick in M is a conscious decision to be in control, ergo you won't bounce of the limiter

You can't bounce it in my C7. It hits the limiter and if you're not quick to change up the power completely dies and all the turbo power drops off. I just leave it in S mode and use the paddles so at least if I miss a change auto pilot kicks in. Safer way IMO cause too many miss gear changes would mean a trip to A&E for whiplash. The only time I use Full left stick over into M mode is when I've got the Lap timer on the DIS and I want to play with the X'mas tree lights gear change indicator.

That's because the C7 uses a single clutch ZF slush-box, not a double-clutch S-Tronic/DSG.

Back to the topic, I still don't understand why anybody would want to bounce their revs off the limiter through a corner. It's lazy, and quite frankly poor driving! Gear change to a suitable gear for the corner then feather the throttle accordingly.

I too didn't understand the mid-corner comment......isn't it "slow in, fast out"?

I'm sure the majority of people know how to handle a bend at speed

Speaking personally it takes a while to get used to the bouncing and flappy paddles coming from a manual. You get used to having your hand on a gear stick that you seldom bounce the limiter and are ready to change but....

For me, when I made the change to the DCT (in my S4) i got used to keeping my hands on the wheel at all times (which you should, right) but sometimes with both hands on in full chase mode and focusing on the road, youve hit the limiter before you know it. So i found it very useful for the S4 to change for me, which the RS doesnt - in full manual

Anyway, ive found the best for me now, keep it in S mode and use the paddles for a little more control, works a treat, 14mpg this morning! :)

Pretty sure mine bounces in first gear but the rest it's shifts itself in stick manual. Might be the MRC S tronic map though.

Hmmm, stage 2 worth it? The S tronic sounds interesting, but are the pther gains worth it? Torque numbers?

Guess it's the same scenario as the b7 apart from the gearing
Maybe gaz can step in and give us his thoughts
