Heads Up - Tyres
Maybe I'll try something other than Pzeros once the winters come off and see what all the fuss is about. £1000 vs £700 for tyres does hurt though

It's worth the extra, it really is money well spentMaybe I'll try something other than Pzeros once the winters come off and see what all the fuss is about. £1000 vs £700 for tyres does hurt though

Pzero's are decent for the first few k's, but they quickly 'go off' and start tram lining and sliding about
They are, however, better than the compound they used on the b7's
Fwiw, I changed the pzero's on my first b8 to the michelins, and they were really good

Re: Heads Up - Tyres
Michelin Pilot Super Sports > Michelin Pilot Sport 2 > Goodyear Eagle F1 > Vredesteins> everything else... in that order.
Pretty sure Tyre Leader (and others) have the B8 sizes available at pretty good prices. Audi will also price match them if you prefer.

Re: Heads Up - Tyres
Slight deviation but still on tyres so hope I'm not hijacking the thread:
I've got Toyos on the RS4. Done 25,000kms in 7 mths and they are OK. Nothing bad, nothing special. They'll probably get another 15,000 to 20,000 kms of wear. Mostly to and from work and easy highway miles so generally easy on the tyres.
BUT ... I have noticed when pushing hard I'd get a little squeak/skreetch out of a corner when loaded right up and punting. Amazingly didn't get out of shape at all or flash the traction control or give much movement other than an ever so subtle little settle as it made the noise. Dry road, hot tyres, load in the car and pushing hard.
Anyone else had any experiences with the Toyo's as I'm wondering what to go to next even though I have a few months to plan it.
My last car (VW Passat R36 wagon) worked well with Michelins and the drive philosophy is similar in being all wheel drive, not light weight, wagon etc etc. So am reckoning Michelins are the go. I had the F1's on the R36 but got bugger all improvement in grip (was subtly better when cold in the wet but otherwise not really a big diff) and got half the distance out of them. So they didn't really make sense even though they were good and meant to be the ants pants.
So, any thoughts on the Toyo's which seem "ok" but want to canvas opinions.
Oh yeh - I had Pirellis on the R36 and they were quiet tyres for first 15,000 kms. Other than that I'm struggling to say much nice. Not that they were particularly bad at anything but just didn't seem to be worth bothering with as they were just "not quite as good" anywhere. So not bothering with Pirelli's as an option on the RS4.
Oh yeh - In Sydney Australia so rain is often "flooding deluge" rather than mild drizzle and I've noticed that the RS4 feels less planted (more floaty - feeling like its moving around/about to aquaplane on the deep water runs) in those deluge rain sessions than did the R36. My first thought was that the extra tyre width of 265 vs 245 makes the water clearance more difficult. But, perhaps its down to Toyo vs Michelins.
cheers

Re: Heads Up - Tyres
I had Toyos on my TTRS and really liked them.
Re: Heads Up - Tyres
I have a couple of mates with B7's and the general consensus was that the Vredesteins are a bloody good tyre. By the looks of things you can get them in 265/30ZR20 94Y now at around £160. Did any of the B7 owners run them? Is anyone running them now?

Re: Heads Up - Tyres
Put Vreds on the TTRS after Toyos wore out. Mainly because I was handing back, had good rep and were cheap. Didn't rate them, only did 3k in them though so maybe not enough to have a balanced

Ran them, not running them now. See post above Michelin FTW!smudge wrote:I have a couple of mates with B7's and the general consensus was that the Vredesteins are a bloody good tyre. Re: Heads Up - Tyres
I'm a total MPS fan, ran them on most of my cars for the last 10 years. I'm just curious to see if anyone has run something else as no one has said.......
Like my late great Grandmother said: 'If you don't ask, you don't get'

Re: Heads Up - Tyres
They are more expensive than the Michelins.....were they really that good? They get a good write up and are C rated for economy (who cares) and A for wet.milesg wrote:I had these on my 911, they were great. Any experience on a B8?

I think if I can get some PS2s, based on most people's advice, for under £200 a corner I'll go for it.

Re: Heads Up - Tyres
Thanks guys
I'm getting the picture that for me it's similar to how Marc1 put it
1st. Michelin Pilot Super Sports
2nd Michelin Pilot Sport 2
3rd Goodyear Eagle F1 if you enjoy sticky but short life and drive in cold weather
Or
3rd Toyo - generally all round ok
Then
Vreds (not seem to be that popular in Oz)
Then daylight to
Pirelli
Done
