Clarkson on the B8 RS 4
Re: Clarkson on the B8 RS 4
He must be getting old. He said the exact opposite when driving the E60 M5......... it was a normal car and quite boring....... until you pressed the M button on the steering, the seats bolsters tighten, the gearbox speeds up, the throttle response changes, you get 500 not 400 map etc etc.
I'm not sure on these cars where you can change the settings and have 'modes' like your mobile phone. I can understand exhaust flaps for when you are on the Motorway with your mum in the car. I can understand electromagnetic dampers - and you really could feel the difference in a 997 Carrera S. It felt scary with them off! Interesting that evo took a bog basic 991 Carrera 3.4 (not 3.8 S) on ecoty (evo car of the year) which had ZERO options in terms of suspension, dampers, steering, additional electronic gizmos etc etc

Gave up watching top gear years ago, all three of them are tools if you ask me.

Couldn't agree more. I like JC, he says things other people haven't git the balls to say. Take things with a pinch of salt.D_K wrote:Come on guys...it's called poetic license...he knows full well the car has drive select, he was merely explaining in a comical way how ridiculously harsh the ride is in full attack mode....probably how my R8 is with mag ride in Sports mode or the standard TTRS suspension..
Otherwise he actually said it's a good car
Until the turbo charged M4 comes along
Think a fair few people on here have said the same as him about the ride. I like Audi's, but if there is something sh1te about them, there is something sh1te about them.

Just journalism, nothing more, nothing less; go back and watch what he said about the e60 M5, the oh so complicated idrive - journo sh&te.
These people have careers to sell stuff. 5th gear generally reports facts, TG doesn't report, I entertains.

Another fuktard who can't operate a pretty simple gear box set up...flip the stick to the left (right in his case) for full manual mode...nob
But I can't help but feel the S4 is the sweet sport in the range, MRC remap and better brakes and I think you've got a better car than the RS 4...just a shame it doesn't have those arches

I do find the brakes pretty pants. What's the best route for a (non ceramic) upgrade? And would it void the warranty?D_K wrote:PhilT wrote:Here's the GT Spirit review http://www.gtspirit.com/2012/12/24/road ... rs4-avant/

Re: Clarkson on the B8 RS 4
1st of all put some decent pads and fluid, i.e Ferodo Ds2500 pads and Castrol rbf600 fluid
That should make a world of difference, but next step is upgrading the calipers

Re: Clarkson on the B8 RS 4
Up against a B7 RS4 I can't help thinking the B8 RS4 looks a bit like a hairdressers version of an RS4. The B7 looks mean and pumped up. The B8 looks slender and underwhelming. Like comparing a 100 metres runner with and 800 metres runner. Both good but the 100 metres runner looks the business.
Re: Clarkson on the B8 RS 4
Good old clarkson, like others have said take what he says with a pinch of salt petrol heads do..this was the man who when doing the r8 top gear review said it was ugly FFs..the only serious thing I have taken from his article is ,in his opinion it's as good as the m3 ..for me that is high praise indeed from him.as we all know he loves BMW,and canes audis and the cocks that drive them..

Yep, he said in his review of the V10 R8 that its THE best car he's EVER driven
He knows his stuff

Re: Clarkson on the B8 RS 4
I know what you mean. Personally, I think the new RS6 looks-wise is the successor to the B7 RS4nial335 wrote:Up against a B7 RS4 I can't help thinking the B8 RS4 looks a bit like a hairdressers version of an RS4. Re: Clarkson on the B8 RS 4
which is strange as the b8 RS4 has similar looks to the c6 rs6... Weird...stu wrote:I know what you mean. wasn't that it was boring as such but just awkward.Ian_C wrote:He must be getting old. Gear changes lurched, steering was heavy and tactless, the ride crashed.
Then everything felt right as it goes like a car that has hard ride and crashy gearbox.
