Rpms going upp on standstill plz help

Can somone help after driving hard I came to an redlight stop and the gauge went up to aprox 950rpms without me toutching the gas and stays there like im giving gas does anyone know what it is or if it is normal when i later turn car off and on again its normal again

I had exactly the same question a couple of years ago. Never got an answer, but just so you know mine does this as well. Sometimes can be triggered by quick hard throttle blip when parked too. I figure it is either something to do with cooling, or electronics voltage spike/drop possibly as well. On one occasion I actually noticed that the revs settled back down to normal idle after some more driving but most times they stay at high idle until car restarted.

Never caused any issue, has never got worse or had any other effects. No fault codes, so I just live with it.
