Exhaust tips

Post by MGD » Tue Dec 27, 2022 10:54 pm

Hi

Does anyone know how easy it is to replace or remove and respray exhaust tips?

Is it a full bumper removal or is there some other hack?

Thanks

Interested in this too, mine are the black versions and are badly pitted and look a bit shoddy. Was hoping to get it done last year but didn't get round to it. Might have a crack at it myself if its easy and will report back

There's a recent thread on here about this. It's a bumper off job. I asked the same thing and got that answer.. They don't make it easy for simple jobs like that..

As a side issue, I reckon if your careful you could probably treat the end of the ends !.. in situ, let's face it, it's all anyone sees..I'd rather do them properly tho like most folks I'd imagine.

Thanks. That’s a pain. Yeah unless it’s done properly it would annoy me.

Unfortunately, there's no shortcut if you want them to look OE and fresh. I recently had my rear bumper painted so took them off beforehand and primered/sprayed them in high-temp satin black. It's as close to the OE colour as I could find.

Looks ace. Think’ll I do that come spring time. What colour is your car? Don’t think I’ve seen one in that colour before?

Cheers! It's Estoril Blue, an Audi Exclusive colour - £2k option from memory. It's the main thing that drew me to the car in all honesty, I've yet to see another!

Took this pic a few weeks ago just because I thought the frozen spiders web looked - well, different! My sports exhaust tips are original and haven't been repainted at all. Not sure what causes them to loose their paint finish as I've read about on here....

Just following up on this - is it difficult to take off the rear bumper? Anyone tried it and have an idiots guide?

Would love to tackle this myself, but not tried anything like this before (more a house DIYer than car DIYer) but think I could get a good finish on the tailpipes if I can get them off!
