Tire cracking

Post by jferreiro » Mon Oct 25, 2021 8:46 am

Hi guys,

can anyone advise on the tire cracking problem I'm facing with my RS4 B8? Despite all the care I have with my tires, I can't seem to stop it from cracking all tires in less than a year of light use, and half of the rubber is still to wear.
At least, the last 4 sets of tires were gone this way and I find it quite frustrating since I'm not abusing the car at all.

I do notice a lot of resistance when tight cornering at low speed and I do believe these 2 issues might be connected. I did read other comments accepting the tight cornering issue as normal in Audis but I find it not normal on my car.

Could there be a wrong setup of suspension, wheel alignment, wrong tire pressure (using 42 PSI front / 39 PSI back) or diff issue?

This is turning my experience with this car so bad that I'm already considering a potential sale.

Any thoughts welcome.

Best regards

FYI - https://www.blackcircles.com/ have 15% off today, could be wrong tyre pressure.

Suspension is all standard and the tires I'm using are the Michelin Pilot Super Sports.

What are the tire pressures you guys are using? As per the manual, I've been using 42 PSI (front) and 39 PSI (rear).

That's split on the inside edge of the tread, are they all like that? And what date code are they?
Also where are you, what's the weather/climate? (Tire suggests USA or Canada ....)

I live in Dubai, UAE (yes, temperatures are often quite extreme but i haven’t seen this happening on any other cars I know. This usually happens in my front tires, not the rear ones, but pretty much every set of tires goes like this… i may have never used all the rubber of any of my front tires.

The ones that i just changed were a year old, manufactured maximum 2 years ago.
