The fuel warning light had been on for sometime and the tank range had counted down from 30 miles till 00 miles left but when I filled up it only took 56 litres (18mpg over 230miles).
So if the tank capacity is 61 litres I should have had 5 litres left appox 25 miles, I wonder why the gauge is so inaccurate ?
tank capacity
Re: tank capacity
I had the same the other day, £72 and about 56 litres (5 mile range on the gauge). There should always be something left in the tank at zero, I'd rather have a bit of leeway. You're welcome to try to find the absolute limit
Let us know how you get on!

Re: tank capacity
Generally, when the mileage range gets to zero, you have 20-30 miles left. This is only a generalisation, and probably more applicable to smaller engine petrol, and diesel models, but with an RS that is heavy on fuel, I wouldn't recommend letting it get that low anyway due to the risk of any sediment being sucked into the fuel system from the dregs in the tank.
Many years ago, I learnt the hard way....when I had my B7, I went to work in the early hours, and being on the last minute, decided to fill up after work. As I left work, my range dropped to zero, but as I only used V Power (or Optimax then), I decided to drive the 5 miles to my nearest Shell garage. I felt quite a plonker when I ran out of fuel literally 100 yards from the garage, in the rush hour, right on a traffic light junction
Had to go the garage to buy a can and 5 litres, before returning to fill up properly with the thought that the cashier was thinking, 'what an idiot - got an RS4, obviously can't afford to run it......'
Now, I never let it get so low so that the range reads anywhere near 'zero'.

Re: tank capacity
Couple of guys in Oz did a video where they measured distance from 'zero' in an SQ5. I think they got 120km (75miles) before it spluttered.

Re: tank capacity
5 litres is 1.1 gallons, 1.1. gallons at 18 mpg = 19.8 miles - remind me to never loan you approximately £25 ha!114uyc wrote: ↑Tue Nov 07, 2017 12:22 amThe fuel warning light had been on for sometime and the tank range had counted down from 30 miles till 00 miles left but when I filled up it only took 56 litres (18mpg over 230miles).

On a serious note, I found the same in the RS, never really took more than 55 from a 0 mile...
