Like Riv says, both my B7 and my B8's only really did/do it when the tyres started to wear
It's perfectly normal though, so wouldn't worry about it

Long term it puts execsive wear on the front diff, it can be corrected and to avoid a large diff rebuild bill should be kept to a minimum or elimintated if possible, as stated before, my B8.5 has had all the fluids change recently and tyres are good and diff scrub is non-existent right now.

Thanks for all comments, reassurance :D

geoffdunk my car will be going in for 2yr service next month, just curious if that will that cover changing all required fluids that reduced/helped the issue or do I need to be asking for something additional over and above normal service.

Cheers

Here is a list of the work, ignore the price, i got mine for a less, this was supplied by another RS4 owner. The front diff oil replacement has also been double up on this list. 2 rear diff oils as one is the diff and the other the sports diff.

The list is for major service at 38k and all the oils changed which is also a 38k job. 38k service does not include spark plugs, that's at 60k.

I can confirm this is normal for the "proper" Quattro system i.e. not the haldex. That said, it might do it to, I've never had one.

Everyone of my 4 cars has done this i.e. B5 S4, B5 RS4, B7 RS4 and B8 RS4. If we're talking about the same judder/scrubbing, it is most noticeable full lock both forward and in reverse. I reported this when I got my 1st Quattro S4. The tech came out with me and confirmed it was perfectly normal and due to the Quattro system.

As stated before it is normal but can be resolved. I have had it on my B6 S4, B7 RS4 and now B8 RS4.
I discuvered the fix when running the S4, service the front diff and new tyres and the diff scrub should go away, I have proven this many times so far. It will come back as the tyres wear but as stated can be dialled out for longish periods. The bottom line is though it won't do any great harm as long as you service the diff and run legal tyres, for the record I never let my tyres go below 2mm which helps, the main reason for this is safety, performance drops of rapidly after 2mm which is long before the legal minimum 1.6mm, also helps with the horrible diff scrub.

My gearbox and diff are only a few months old and covered about 3k miles now, however the car has just started to do this very slightly (more of a slip) and when I measured the tyres they're now at 4mm. So I think it’s just a trait of the Quattro system when combined with worn tyres. My B7 RS4's were the same.
