Re: Bird <beep> mark Removal
It was removed by heating the panel. The marks are not caused by acid etching, they are caused by temperature differences.

Is that a paint stripper heat gun?
Do the marks come back when the panel has cooled down to ambient?

Nope, gone permanent.
It's just a regular heat gun, garage/dit etc

That's what I meant, the sort of heat gun you use when stripping paint off wooden house windows, doors, skirting boards, etc.Andy947 wrote:It's just a regular heat gun, garage/diy etc

Re: Bird <beep> mark Removal
Shouldn't you put it on high heat and use a metal scraper?
Re: Bird <beep> mark Removal
About a year ago I accidentally left some bird crap on the roof of my black RS4 for a week. After finally cleaning it off there were severe marks, actually depressions in the paint. However, after a couple of weeks in the sun they completely disappeared. Autoglym had a study showing that it's heat that causes the marks rather than etching as the paint adjusts to fit the hardened bird droppings (see http://www.autoglym.com/news_articles/n ... mage-paint), so it seems that the reverse process also works, either by just leaving it in the sun like I did (although it would work better with a black car than white or silver) or by artificially applying heat.

I'd never have the balls to do that to the wife's motor, never mind me own.

Hair Dryer on high setting would be a safer bet

Take a "cool pill" and think about how hot the air is coming out of a heat gun - typically it's over 500 Celsius, which in careless hands could cause some serious paint damage.Andy947 wrote:If you are a moronRIV wrote:Hair Dryer on high setting would be a safer
On the other hand the air coming out of a hair dryer is typically less than 80 Celsius, which should be hot enough to remove the bird poo damage with much less risk of serious paint damage.
